This refreshingly tongue-in-cheek Zombie story starts with the protagonist kicked out of his survival group after suffering an undead bite and inexplicably fighting off the infection.. and morphs into a rollicking rollercoaster-ride of an uncomplicated blood-soaked keep-runnin'-to-survive romp. You definitely need to set aside logic to enjoy the offering.. but it's a blast if you can manage it.
The Rich Restucci tale is every bit as gory as you should expect from a narrative driven by Rage-Virus victims dead-set on ripping their neighbors apart, rotting reanimated corpses instinctively feeding on human flesh, roving sociopathic gangs taking advantage of anarchy to rape + pillage + kill without consequence, and self-interested military scientist-types that want our hero for nothing more than his immune blood. True, the tropes just keep on coming - the book isn't very original - but Restucci's approach is strikingly lighthearted and his sense of humor had me laughing out loud.

Doubtless, reader Michael Kramer's spot-on interpretation of the author's intent made the book better than it is.. but the deadpan delivery reminded me why I enjoy audiobooks. If given the choice between a text version of the book or this recorded iteration featuring a genuinely talented voice actor, take this one seven days out of seven.

Altogether, 'Chaos Theory' merits 8 stars out of 10. I am extremely happy that I found it on the 'Plus' menu.. because this irreverently raucous book rates a Credit. I personally won't be continuing with the 'Zombie Theories' series, but you could easily fall in love with the approach and invest some money & time.

[Note: repeatedly referring to hordes of shambling bloodthirsty monsters as a bunch of "dead folks" had me chuckling]

The character's (or author's?) fixation with overweight female zombies and maintaing his 'macho' status aside this was an entertaining zombie tale. Enough that I'm starting the second in the series. I'm hoping we get to hear some more from Ship's point of view.
