Publisher's Summary
In a snug New England fishing village, Charlie St. Cloud tends the lawns and monuments of an ancient cemetery where his younger brother, Sam, is buried. After surviving the car accident that claimed his brother's life, Charlie is graced with an extraordinary gift: He can see, talk to, and even play catch with Sam's spirit. Into this magical world comes Tess Carroll, a captivating woman training for a solo sailing trip around the globe. Fate steers her boat into a treacherous storm that propels her into Charlie's life. Their beautiful and uncommon connection leads to a race against time and a choice between death and life, between the past and the future, between holding on and letting go — and the discovery that miracles can happen if we simply open our hearts.

Charlie St. Cloud is haunting
I really enjoyed this book. It is somewhat different from the movie but it is very good. A person develops strong feelings for the characters and wants to see them arrive at a happy ending somehow. Very Good!!

Narration and sweet story makes for a good read.
First thing I should tell you is that the book and the movie contain certain differences in the details. However, the movie does reflect the soul of the book.
The narrator has a soft almost dreamy kind of a voice which pairs well with this book. The book itself is part philosophy, part theology, and part old-fashioned story. There are no great surprises in the book but there don't need to be. It just isn't that kind of a book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and would definitely read another book by this author.

Absolutely Moving
Watching the movie again brought me here, so glad I did!! There's more to the story and it's so unbelievably moving and comforting. The only thing is I thought I could play it at night to sleep to, NO I couldn't stop listening to it all!!! 💙💙💙💙💙

I love this story so much.
If you've seen the movie, this is the perfect counterpart to this story. Yes, Charlie is older and not nearly as promising a prospect as depicted in the movie, and that's okay. Books usually paint people's flaws better. Make them more real and relatable, right?
The thing that makes this a must-read is the story of Tess is played out in violent detail. This is her story. She is not the damsel in waiting. However she does need help, but so does everyone else. It is a truly beautiful story.

A very unusual story, well worth a listen
Charlie St Cloud is a unique story of a young man facing the devastating consequences of his actions and the love for his kid bother. To say more would reveal too much of the surprises the reader will find in the book but the themes of love of family, friends, owning ones actions and allowing to move on after tragedy are played out through the story. A bit slow and uncomfortable at the start give it time and you'll be drawn into the magic of the story and be glad that you did. Richard Poe is a very good choice for this narration.

Starts out slow, but has a good pay off.
The narrator does an excellent job at bringing this book to life. However, the first part of the book, the author spent a lot of time bringing the world to your imagination, but in doing so drug the beginning of the book out a little longer than it probably should have been . Overall, the arch of the book was fascinating and an interesting story.
