Kind of a blast from the past, very enjoyable listen, while social constructs have changed in the decades since this was written the ideas are still quite interesting

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Classic Wyndham sci-fi story with wonderful characters and story twists. The narrator did excellent job of bringing the story to life.

I'd love of some action came in. part two. maybe the power companies found out that Chucky is back and are now trying to kidnap him once more.

This John Wickham tale is part SciFi-Occult imaginings and part Child Psychology. Some form of extradimensional entity possesses a little boy ('Matthew') and leads the child - and his parents - on a journey of exploration of our reality and existential musings.
The book is moderately boring in parts but also reflective & clever. My attention drifted annoyingly frequently.. but Wyndham brought me back with interesting demonstrations of paranormal influence (odd painting techniques & swimming despite not knowing how, for example).

As to presentation: Reader Damian Lynch performs professional diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting and - despite being monotone at times - enthusiastic narration.

In toto, I rate this recording of 'Chocky' 5 stars out of 10. It holds up remarkably well for a 60-year-old story - and was a more than serviceable distraction for free - but keep browsing if they ask you for a Credit.

[Note: The climactic reveal at the end of the novel is loaded with a bewildering array of potential continuing plotlines. I felt ripped off by Wyndham's conclusion: essentially "..and then Chocky left. The End." (perhaps the most disappointing ending I have ever read).]

Damian Lynch is one of my favourite narrators. John Wyndham is my favourite science fiction writer of his era. Put them together and you have a really enjoyable story that is delivered perfectly.
