I've loved all these novels, but in this one, the main character, Persis, really experiences a lot of personal growth as she inches her way through a very complex mystery. The 'absence' of her sidekick / would be lover Archie leaves her without someone who has her back and with one exception, has to get herself out of the difficult situations she inevitably puts herself in. Good action, historical details and as always, the sights and smells of the city. I really couldn't put this one down.
