Story
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Story
It's Peretti's ultimate monster story. And this time, the monster is real. Miles away from the hectic city, Reed and Rebecca hike into the beautiful Northwestern woods. They're surrounded by gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, and hundreds of acres of unspoiled wilderness. But something - or someone - begins closing in on them. Something no human has ever seen. And it's killing everyone in its path without remorse.

Story
Christopher Golden's Ararat is the heart-pounding tale of an adventure that goes wrong - on a biblical scale. When an earthquake reveals a secret cave hidden inside Mount Ararat in Turkey, a daring, newly engaged couple are determined to be the first ones inside...and what they discover will change everything. The cave is actually a buried ancient ship that many quickly come to believe is Noah's Ark. When a team of scholars, archaeologists, and filmmakers make it inside the ark, they discover an elaborate coffin in its recesses.

Story
Genevieve has secrets that no one knows. In Rome she can be whoever she wants to be. Her neighbours aren't nosy; her Italian is passable; the shopkeepers and restaurant owners now see her as a local, and they let her be. It's exactly what she wants. One morning, after getting groceries, she returns to her 500-year-old Trastevere apartment - it's exactly as she left it, not a thing out of place...except for the small box on her kitchen table. A box that definitely wasn't there this morning. A box that is addressed to "Lucy Callahan." A name that she hasn't used in 10 years.

Great listen!
I really enjoyed this book. It’s not my usual genre by any means, but I found myself drawn back into it time and time again. I was intrigued by the description of the locale and found myself researching the area. There was quite a bit of gore, but the reader is phenomenal, and it mostly seems necessary.

Little cornball cringe
Some of the cornball lines the characters say are cringy
While being held at gun point one of the characters says something spicy to her captor. His response:
“Watch your mouth”
Response:
“I can’t watch my mouth, I can’t see my face. Suck it up buttercup “

Good
Liked the story, gripped me and I enjoyed it. Not enough to buy book 2 though. One thing that annoyed me was the narrator’s quick breathing. Once I noticed it, couldn’t stop hearing it and it got on my nerves.

Cringe
The repetitive Canada-splaining was cringeworthy. It’s almost as if the author got kickbacks for mentioning Tim hortons.

Not recommended
Terribly written. Repetitive and immature. I was so looking forward to the Canadian content, location, and subject matter. So disappointed. The narrator did his best with what he was given.

It was okay
Really wanted to give this book a chance as it was about Canada. For the most part it was an interesting story, but at times I felt it lacked a little bit of depth. It was pretty good but I think it had the framework to be an awesome tale. Worth a listen and the narrator did a good job.
