Our thought lives have incredible power over our mental, emotional, and even physical well-being. In fact, our thoughts can either limit us to what we believe we can do or release us to experience abilities well beyond our expectations. When we choose a mindset that extends our abilities rather than placing limits on ourselves, we will experience greater intellectual satisfaction, emotional control, and physical health. The only question is... how?

Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Story
A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself.

Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don't fit the stereotypical profile: they're not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male. Sari Solden's groundbreaking study reveals that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement are also symptoms of ADHD. Newly revised and updated to reflect the latest clinical research, the book explores treatment and counseling options and more.

I should have listened to the reviews
I'm listening to this because of depression and anxiety. Let me tell you how useless this "book" is if you are struggling with the mess in your mind. NOTHING is explained in a way someone like me who is struggling with these issues can possibly organize and understand. She speaks of an app all the time but there isn't even a link to it. i searched the neurocycle app and bad reviews for that too!
I'm more confused and depressed now than before the book. 🥴😩

Incredibly informative and engaging
This book is excellent. The science behind what your mind is, how it differs from your physical brain, what thoughts are and what you can do to literally rewrite your thoughts and emotions has been a revelation. Understanding that thoughts are a physical object that we can manipulate to a cellular level and not just ethereal concepts has completely turned my understanding of trauma, ruminating thought patterns and habit formation on its ear. I am so grateful to have found this incredibly informative book that is packed full of actionable concepts and tangible, science based explanations.

I could not get passed the monotone scientific mumbo jumbo to get any further than just an hour in. It sound like one big run on sentence and I couldn’t follow it. It sounded like she was just reading the findings of her research and studies. That was a waste of a credit.

Not Helpful
I wanted to enjoy this audiobook and I was really excited to dive into it. It sets up the outline of topics well (foreshadowing that the author and narrator is a PHD so it reads like a research paper). I was disappointed by the continued loop of the same message and even phrases. I am diagnosed and treated for ADHD, depression, and anxiety so I figured what have I got to lose. More information is always better in my world! Wrong. She on several occasions dismisses that these are diagnosable conditions but merely a state of the brain in a reaction to toxic stress, etc. I just spent the last year of my life getting a handle on my medications and the function of my current brain state. I found it almost insulting - which I realize is a personal opinion and reaction. However, save yourself time and energy. Download her Neurocycle app and browse the internet pdfs she provides. If that thrills you then give the book a listen.

Don't buy this book buy the app instead
heard about this women on a podcast and i thought she was so great and the ideas were so interesting i wanted to read about them. There is useful information in this book but it's literally read as a ad. she repeats the same phrases literally 5 or so times every chapter and it essentially boils down to a 6 hour ad for her app(which also costs money) overall terrible book great ideas though if explained properly. Save your time and get the app instead if you are interested like i was.

Cool research, but very repetitive
Like another reviewer mentioned, the content in this audiobook is very repetitive--to the point that I wondered if I should continue at some points. Aside from that, the content does share a helpful method for reframing negative thoughts along with practical examples of how to do so. But I can't help wishing it were more concise and cut out all of the fluff. I think the author's YouTube videos on the topic of neurocycling are better in that respect.

Maybe a rewrite??
Wow. I’m only saying this in the hopes an author can revise this. I couldn’t even finish it. The repetitive information is killing me so I finally just went to the chapter that by title should lay out the 5 steps in detail and from the lost earring story to the head severed story, I got nothing except what was already repeated over and over again and I just had enough. I think a professional reader would do this book some good too.

Your body can go 40+ days without food. Over a week with out water....
There is no forced treatment in mental health.
I know for a FACT... the ones that are made to make their own decisions in a state of psychosis because it is “their right” suffer the most.
So disappointed in this book.
