Story
A deadly multi-vehicle pile-up on San Diego’s historic Cabrillo bridge is thought of as a horrific accident - until Kendra Michaels arrives on the scene and perceives it as something much more sinister. Blind for decades and now sighted, Kendra's unusual skill for observation is highly sought after by both the FBI and CIA. Now her amazing conclusions open up a multi-jurisdictional investigation that once again teams her with the FBI and federal agent Adam Kyle as they investigate a conspiracy so explosive that someone will kill again and again to protect it.

It's been four months since the events of Sight Unseen, and Kendra Michaels is obsessed with trying to track down serial killer Eric Colby. Despite his apparent execution at San Quentin, Kendra is convinced that Colby is still alive. The trouble is, she can't prove it. Even her razor-sharp powers of observation, honed while blind during the first twenty years of her life, have gotten her nowhere. So no one believes her.

Story
A serial killer is on the loose in San Diego, and he has a most unusual M.O.: with each kill, he leaves behind objects with unclear meanings. Most of the recent killings are centered near Kendra Michaels' home and office, so it comes as no great surprise when the FBI shows up at her door. The investigators soon make a startling discovery: the left-behind objects are actually souvenirs of other unsolved serial murder cases in various US cities.

Dr. Kendra Michaels, blind for the first 20 years of her life before gaining her sight via a revolutionary surgical procedure, is a renowned investigator known for her razor-sharp senses - honed during her years in the dark - and keen deductive abilities. Now, her skills are needed uncomfortably close to home. Two staff members have been murdered at a school for the blind where Kendra spent her formative years. But the murders are puzzlingly dissimilar: one victim was brutally stabbed, while the other was killed by a bullet to the head. Are the crimes related?

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

Story
Delilah Winter is one of the hottest pop stars on the planet, so how in the world was she kidnapped right in the middle of a show at the famous Hollywood Bowl? If anyone can figure it out, it's Dr. Kendra Michaels, who works with local and federal authorities on only the most impossible cases. Blind for the first 20 years of her life until a revolutionary surgical procedure allowed her to regain her sight, Kendra uses her powers of observation - honed during her years in the dark - to detect what other investigators don't.
Written by: Roy Johansen, and others
Publisher's Summary
A music therapist who thrives on helping others, Kendra Michaels cherishes the ordinary life she has achieved after stem cell surgery restored her sight. The skills she perfected during those sightless years - the ability to pick up the most subtle audio, olfactory, and tactile cues in the world around her - coupled with her laser-sharp mind - have made her a uniquely potent observer and problem solver. Kendra’s uncanny way of connecting the dots is as baffling to law enforcement as it is legendary.
When former agent Adam Lynch, known as the Puppetmaster, approaches her about a possible serial murder case, she is determined to steer clear. But he’s a notorious manipulator, skilled at handling criminals and colleagues alike to get the results he wants. And now he holds a trump card: The latest possible victim is Kendra’s ex-lover, an FBI agent who vanished without enough clues to follow - unless Kendra can pick up the trail. And if she can’t, she just might close her eyes again ... forever.

Great Narration
I started reading Iris Johansen books when I was 12 and was obsessed with them. This one is very similar in style to the others and that is exactly what I was looking for.
The excitement, hints of romance and quick pace hit all the right points. Especially good as a cottage read :)
Lastly, the narrator is very talented and acts out the scenes like a pro 👌.

This is a good one!
I enjoyed Elisabeth Rodgers narration once again...she does an excellent job with voices and inflections. I liked the story but would have wished for a more romantic ending. They'd lead up to it but then mess it up. It's good to be a strong woman, but Kendra had almost any sort of issue with compliments thinking everyone wanted to use her. She was mostly always angry. I would have liked for her to be a bit more accepting and not so defensive, maybe even softer. I think they could have had the same plot and outcome even then. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the story. Good plot, good surprises, twists and turns with a happy ending. It would be interesting to know if there are people who can do what Kendra could do with her 5 senses. Pretty amazing. I wish there was a sequel to finish or continue with Kendra & Leach's story.

Not Good, sorry!
What disappointed you about Close Your Eyes?
Rather amateurish, both in writing and in narrator's performance. The story plot was interesting however, the dialogue of the characters lacks dept and maturity. The narration did not help the lack of maturity.
Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen again?
Sorry, not unless it makes the best seller's list.
What didn’t you like about Elisabeth Rodgers’s performance?
Immature inflection.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

So....so
Would you try another book from Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen and/or Elisabeth Rodgers?
i don't know
What was most disappointing about Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen ’s story?
This book is nothing to write home about. For one thing the murder plot gets repetitive & boring real fast & any avid reader, movie buff or TV guru could quickly figure out why the murders are happening & what the main plot is although nothing comes to light until the end. So to begin with so there is no challenge there. The main female character seems to have a lot of extraordinary talents but can’t seem to handle them when under real pressure. She is in constant self analysis & blame of herself & those around her to a point of becoming nauseating & repetitious. Even after nearly getting killed several times in this book she still plunders on in a cloud of resistance, confusion & inability to stop. (?) She waffles from always believing she is right, getting testy, to having a huge chip on her shoulder. The story line becomes too long & drawn out with the story based on mainly conversational which to me lacks a balanced with what could have been some interesting background narrative. And the relationship between the main female character & the FBI sounds just way too loose, unorganized & unbelievable.
The narrator was pretty good although I could still hear the female tone in the numerous male voices. So in a case where there is a lot of conversation I would prefer a male & female narrator.
What three words best describe Elisabeth Rodgers’s performance?
She was overworked.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No

Would you try another book from Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen and/or Elisabeth Rodgers?
No
Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen again?
No
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was fine
What character would you cut from Close Your Eyes?
The lead female
Any additional comments?
The personality of the lead female character was awful. She was rude, arrogant and unliked by all and i felt she deserved the opinion of others. I could not finish the book because i could not stand to listen to her any more.

Main character is a little annoying
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I did like the story line but the main character had a little bit of a persecution complex. Everyone is trying to "use" her because of her "gift". They want to make her be part of the investigation. She’s not too likable despite her overcoming a disability. I did like hearing the observation skills on things that everyone else would have probably overlooked. I’m not sure I would buy another book about this character.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Another murder mystery
Which scene was your favorite?
Main character describing what was out of place in the victim's apt
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Not sure. It would depend on who plays the main person

I would have enjoyed it more without the voice...next time I will buy a regular kindle version.

Her voice "changes" grated on me...just personal preference.
