Publisher's Summary

The new novel - a book that sold more than a million copies the first week it went on sale in Japan - from the internationally acclaimed author, his first since IQ84.

Here he gives us the remarkable story of Tsukuru Tazaki, a young man haunted by a great loss; of dreams and nightmares that have unintended consequences for the world around us; and of a journey into the past that is necessary to mend the present. It is a story of love, friendship, and heartbreak for the ages.

Great book, strange performance

I had read this book a few years ago and had liked it very much. However, the reader puts on a distracting accent when characters speak that I found quite off-putting, especially with the amount of dialogue and intra-diegetic story telling. When you read the book, you forget that you are reading someone's rendering of someone else telling them a story, but this immersion is impossible here unfortunately.

Another narrator is much needed!!!

The fake accents are excruciating!!! They make you want to give up after a few seconds in! Even throughout the whole book I had to constantly remind myself to focus on the story and not pay attention to the voice! Had I not been so captivated by the storyline, I would have given up! Please, get someone else to narrate it! And future listeners, if you have the option, forego this and choose the actual paper book to read!
