A place you will never forget. Rosamunde Pilcher's Scotland...where the fields flourish with greenery, the bills bloom with purple, and the lochs glitter with the bright blue of the sky. A time you will never forget. September...when the heather is in full flower, the first chill of autumn cools the air, and the countryside stirs with the hunt, balls, dinner parties, and dance. Story
Maeve Binchy's best-selling novels not only tell wonderful stories, they also give an insight into how Ireland has changed over the decades but how people remain the same: they still fall in love, sometimes unsuitably; they still have hopes and dreams; they have deep, long-standing friendships, and some that fall apart. From her earliest writing to her most recent, Maeve's work has included wonderfully nostalgic pieces and also sharp, often witty writing which is insightful and topical.

Publisher's Summary
Teeming with marvelous, memorable characters in an audiobook that is a true masterpiece, Rosamunde Pilcher's Coming Home is a story to be savored, re-listened to, and cherished forever.
Set against the backdrop of an elegant Cornwall mansion before World War II and a vast continent-spanning canvas during the turbulent war years, this captivating story tells of an extraordinary young woman's coming of age, coming to grips with love and sadness, and in every sense of the term, coming home....
In 1935, Judith Dunbar is left behind at a British boarding school when her mother and baby sister go off to join her father in Singapore. At Saint Ursula's, her friendship with Loveday Carey-Lewis sweeps her into the privileged, madcap world of the British aristocracy, teaching her about values, friendship, and wealth.
But it will be the drama of war, as it wrenches Judith from those she cares about most, that will teach her about courage...and about love.

great story but they forgot about chapters.
The story was great. The recording does not indicate chapters because of this it gets confusing as its not clear when there is a change in direction like a new chapter. Also making it hard to back up for whatever reason as its broken up by the sections in the book. So you are faced with a 10 hour segment.

still one of my favourites
I love love this story and only because of that did I manage to make it through. Not a fan of the narrator's voice. Though animated, it seemed too frail for such young characters. And I found the chapters/sections too long. It became bothersome to find where I left off (fell asleep).

I love the war time details, the beautiful locations, the everyday descriptions of delicious meals and drinks and lovely homes, and the wonderfully drawn characters. It is truly like settling in to a downy chair in a quiet, well appointed room in a stately home and daydreaming up a perfect story. Enjoy!

It is so refreshing to read an old fashion love story where all the characters you have come to to love have good things happen to them - despite living in the time of war. It made my heart feel happy.

Best enjoyed as an audio book
I am not sure I would have gotten through this book in print as it seemed so long and long winded with many characters and details woven in and out. But as an audio book I thoroughly enjoyed it -- it felt like Downton Abby --- you never wanted it to end but you are excited to see what happens next. I loved Helen Johns as narrator.

This was truly a favorite. Absolutely wonderful.
I was so sad this story ended. I would love to find out how the characters moved on with their lives. This was a wonderful story of people in Cornwall. The characters were developed and the reader becomes deeply invested in all of them. Once we know all about them and love them, WW2 begins and the story follows each and every one of them and how their lives are affected. It goes on through the end of the war and tells of how these people pick up the pieces after the war is over and begin to live lives of hope after such loss. I truly loved it and never wanted it to end.

Nice Coming of Age Story
This is a sweeping story of an English house and it's various inhabitants before and after WWII. The story follows two girls as they grow up and make choices - good and bad - that change their lives. It won't change your life, but it was a great listen on a long car trip. #Family Saga #WWII #Feel Good #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
