Story
Being President doesn't make things any easier, Jack Ryan finds out, especially when trouble's brewing in Moscow and China. Blending the exceptional realism and authenticity that are his hallmarks with intricate plotting, razor-sharp suspense, and a remarkable cast of characters, this is Clancy at his best - and there is none better.

Story
Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man—a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Easily near the top of this series
Off the top, LDP is amazing narrating this novel. He and Scott Brick do it best, and I always find LDP has the edge in action sequences and tense moments.
From start to finish this is one of the best of either the Jack Ryan or Jack Ryan Jr. series. The mystery of the poisoning, the investigative work, the nearly overrun outpost and Osprey extraction, the intrigue of the Russian organized crime and political worlds, and a truly successful use of long flashback stories made this on par with anything Clancy has written, and in my opinion, better paced and more readable.
It balanced Jack and Junior, used the campus pretty effectively (though I missed Hendley and Biery a bit. Gav made a brief appearance, but I could’ve used more, being a bit of a tech nerd).
Bringing Midas into the fold and really instilling how fearsome a warrior he was before his eventual ingress into the campus was brilliantly handled.
Man, the helicopter content, the environments…. I’ve read both series multiple times, and while there are moments I loved in many books, this one delivers from page one. Mark Greaney is such a gifted writer and developer of characters in his own right, and that skill and literary deftness is on display here. Each character is more “themself” than they are in other books. Junior isn’t whiny or led around by an overactive libido, Jack isn’t preachy or overdramatic.
This is a great book, handled just right. Mark Greaney writing and Lou Diamond Phillips narrating are a perfect combo. Reading the print version of this book is recommended too, just to make sure you don’t miss any of the good stuff.
Enjoy!

FUN RIDE, GREAT NARRATION
I enjoy the series, the stories are great, and Lou Diamond Phillips is stellar in this one again! Written over a decade ago but feels like it's taken directly from today's headlines.
