Publisher's Summary

Scandal and tragedy erupt against the backdrop of an exclusive Paris hotel in Danielle Steel’s riveting novel.

Known for its luxurious accommodations and bespoke service, the Hotel Louis XVI has been the most lauded boutique hotel in all of Paris for decades, attracting an international clientele of the rich and famous. Now, after four years of renovations and the death of its legendary and beloved manager, it is set to reopen its doors at last. An esteemed group of loyal returning guests is set to descend upon the hotel, joined by a number of new faces who have managed to secure coveted bookings in the wake of last-minute cancellations.

Awaiting them all is the Louis XVI’s new manager, Olivier Bateau, an anxious man whose lack of experience leaves him unprepared. He and his level-headed assistant manager, Yvonne Philippe, both strive to continue the hotel’s tradition of excellence. But they quickly realize that anything can happen at any moment, and on one cool September evening, everything does.

A successful art consultant arrives at the hotel for the first time since her brutal divorce and is surprised to find new love - if she is willing to risk her heart again. A new guest contemplates ending his life and saves a life instead. A couple finds their once-in-a-lifetime trip interrupted by a tragic medical emergency, leaving the idyllic future they’ve long waited for hanging in the balance. And one of the hotel’s most high-profile guests, a French politician and assumed presidential candidate, holds a mysterious meeting in his suite that will threaten his life and legacy. Rocked by the events of this one fateful night, guests and staff alike brace themselves for the aftershock, as it quickly becomes apparent that more dramas and misfortunes are still in store.

Danielle Steel tells an unforgettable story about a famed hotel, where a few complications quickly escalate into a matter of life and death, changing the lives of everyone who passes through its doors.

Good story but predictable

I enjoyed this book. The narrator was very good, clearly spoken and didn’t try to make up accents which is so annoying. It is a good story complete with some scenarios that are not typically Danielle Steele. It is a love story set in Paris. It is nice to imagine the characters actually being on the streets mentioned and walking by the Seine. Later on it
gets typically D Steele with love conquering all. It is a nice read although a bit like a fairy tale but who doesn’t love fairy tales and escapism. I recommend this book.

Complications

I had a hard time at the beginning of the book but once I got into it, I loved the story line right to the end

Rehashing of previous themes from Danielle Steel

I have been a Danielle Steel fan for at least 30 years, but this book was boring and formulaic, as have her novels for the last few years. I feel like I am reading the same book over and over with different character names and different titles. The female protagonist is always a middle-aged either widow or divorcee with young adult children who travels internationally and meets a charming man on her travels and falls in love. Usually there is either a death or serious illness and the woman perseveres and comes out a stronger person and lives happily ever after. I keep purchasing Danielle Steel’s novels hoping for a better experience, but will probably save my audible credits for something fresher in the future.

Not the real Danielle Steel

The narrator had a very grinding voice the story was not a true warm and fuzzy love story that Miss Steel is noted for

Disappointing

How very disappointing - I seriously had trouble finishing this one. If she continues to write (in detail) an out sexual encounters & with homosexuals then she will definitely stop reading any more of her books.

Complications

This book was not her best. Lots of and lots of repeats. The storylines didn’t particularly move me one way or the other. The reader of this story’s voice was too French initially. I had too get use to the voice and alliteration in it.
Wouldn’t really recommend this one.

Hotel Life

This was not one of my favorite Danielle Steel listens. it was just okay. There wasn't any suspense, not that much drama either. It was just kind of blaaaa!

Typical Danielle Steel

Not the best Steel book but well worth a listen. Interesting characters and surprise turns.
