Publisher's Summary

I was starting to think I knew what I was dealing with here at the university best known as Villain Academy. Not so much. But can I really trust a shocking revelation from someone who's proven to be my enemy?

There's no way to answer that without diving in. If my mother is still out there alive, I have to uncover the truth. Even if it means putting myself back in the hands of the mages who've betrayed me before.

The other scions have my back now, with all the trouble that's brought them. How much more will they have to sacrifice before we can find some kind of peace? I'm ready to fight for my newfound life, my family, and the guys I'm falling for...but this battle may bring more casualties than I can bear.

Corrupt Alchemy is the fifth book in a university-age paranormal academy series. Expect magical villainy, a tough heroine who bends to no one’s will, a dollop of steam, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers reverse harem romance where there'll be no choosing required.

Yes! It's a very good day!

Any day one of these books comes out on audio is a good day, because it's like I'm reuniting with my friends after time away. I just always know I'm going to get an excellent vocal performance by Meg Sylvan and Stephen Dexter, and an even better story. In Corrupt Alchemy, a lot of the drive of the story is focused on hunting down a particular family member that was revealed to possibly be alive at the end of the last book. At the same time, Rory's relationship with the guys are still growing. And as for the guys, they're all dealing the fallout from their actions/decisions in the last book. Rory still struggles with discovering not everything is so black and white and there's good and bad on both sides of the coin here. Really, there's so much going on, but I'm being vague so as not to spoil it. All-in-all, it's business as usual at Royal Villain Academy, and I mean that in the best possible way. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

Changes

Rory and Malcolm's relationship takes a turn for the better in this book. Rory has to handle two major changes in this book. One is good and one is not. This is a series book but this book you could read as a stand alone because everything got recapped in this book. Which as a person reading this as a series I didn't like that part of the book. Big changes are happening and this book kicks them off, it will be interesting to see what happens now.

Love the narration

This series keeps on surprising me. Just when you think things can't get much worse, they do. The scions finally start working together, only to be outplayed by other plot twists. The extent of barons's cruelty is nauseating and left me feeling the same helplessness as the main characters.

The plot is twisted, cruel, unpredictable and I can't help but love it, although I'm on the edge of my seat, biting my nails off because nothing seems to go right. Ugh...

Plot and character development are amazing and the world the author created is expanding with every book.

The narrators of the audiobook are doing an amazing job giving these characters life. The difference between all the characters is subtle but clear and shows off their skills!

The focus of the story shifts from Academy life to a search for a lost relative.

As with every previous audiobook in this series, the narrators both did a splendid job.

There is not much Academy stuff in this installment, that life kind of falls to the background now that there might be another Bloodstone relative out there. With Rory being a Bloodstone, she is the best tool in finding the other Bloodstone so the Blacksuits need her. But of course; with so many cruel practices within Fearmancer society, along with having a family member comes the uncertainty whether it will be for the better or not. After all, almost all the other Scions have suffered so much, all with the Fearmancer’s mindset that only cruelty can give them the chance to rise to the task of being the next Barons, so it’s all just to be molded into fierce leaders. Having an older relative nearby might not be pleasant at all. But still... some family could also mean some extra support against the current Barons. And thus Rory joins the Blacksuits in their search for the other Bloodstone familymember.

This installment focuses more on the search for her relative and the uncertainties that come with that and the relationship between the Scions but it was a nice change from having seen Rory struggle and strife and slowly rise above all the things the Barons and everyone else has thrown towards her. Can’t wait to see how the other Bloodstone will play a part in all of this so on to the next installment!

The action never stops

I received a copy of this audiobook from the author. My review is voluntary. I had already read and reviewed the ebook. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook and "hearing" my favorite fearmancers.

Another fantastic story to continue the series. Rory and her guys all face personal life-altering situations. Will any of these succeed in breaking the scions' fragile relationship(s) apart? Or will the group just grow stronger in their fight against the corrupt pentacle of barons?

I don't want to ruin the story so I am not going to give any details. If you haven't started the series yet you should and if you have been reading along you will on the edge of your comfy chair. The only bad news is that you will have to wait for the next installment to find out the answers to several heart-stopping questions.
