Slow burn romance that held my attention...

This book is a slow burn romance that mainly focuses on the build of the hero's and heroine's relationship. They are brought together by unusual circumstances. The interesting characters, how they interact and the mystery is what held my attention. The last portion of the book is faster paced and steamy.I enjoyed the listen. Keep in mind this story takes place in a darker world.

Great

It started slowly, but the last 90 minutes were tense. The performances were good. I would love an audio book where the speaking parts of the book were done by the correct actor (female actor reads the female characters lines, and vice versa). The book was good though, I am going to listen to more of this author!

🌻De Ja Vu ? I swear I’ve heard this before!🌻

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

I can’t put my finger on the exact book or author but, I listened to this basic plot before. I swear, I’m not crazy, it’s almost exactly the same. This fact was a disappointment because I knew how things were going to progress.

Is this a good book? It’s an Ok book with Ok characters and an Ok plot. I wasn’t really drawn into the story and I didn’t become emotionally involved but, I was somewhat entertained.

This book doesn’t have a lot of graphic sex scenes, in fact there isn’t many sex scenes, at all. I was expecting a dark romance, but honestly, I really didn’t find it all that dark, either. It was just an average contemporary romance with outstanding narration. I have doubts that this will be a novel I will listen to again.

So darn good!

Yeah I got this base on Sebastian York reading it, but he was great, the story was great and I spent my whole day listening to it and telling my family to screw off so I could listen to it. I loved this one so much and it had me on the edge of my seat.

I didn't know I would love it this much

I enjoy a lot of audio books. Many are fun and enjoyable and with characters and narrators I like. Some books... some books pull me in from the first moment and never let me go. This is one of those books.

This could have been a stereotypical 'bad guy with a good heart' kind of story. it wasn't. I really think the difference was that the Ava's (Harrison and Erickson) wrote and delivered such a great female character. Not just a pushover who saw a good looking man and threw all her inhibitions out the window.

From the moment Ivy was taken, she was a fighter. She never backed down, to anyone, for any reason. She was always tough, always being her own person.

At the same time, Sebastian York's narration was fantastic. Yes you got scenes in his business, but in writing the story more about the two of them you saw him as a person and not as a cliche.

After finishing this, I just kind of want to sit and wallow in it all for awhile. It really had it all. I loved their banter and communication. Their meals together were genius. Ivy's distrust, loneliness, longing to be free. All very real.

Totally worth your credits and to listen to over and over

not my cup of tea I was rather bored mindless

I was bored and disappointed this book took me days to listen to . Cyrus was supposed to be some money man for bad men but he couldn't even control his second who always seemed to question him about everything. Ivy was either crying or running around like a chicken with her head cut off. I like strong characters especially in mob like books. I felt no connection with the characters . The only parts I even like where the dog who wasn't even mentioned in the epilogue.

Ivy and Cyrus

Ivy's father tried to give her away to a horrible man after losing a high-stakes card game held at Cyrus' house. Cyrus stops it in his house but her father was going to give her away anyway after the game to settle debts. Her brother Trent, calls Cyrus for help to protect Ivy and Cyrus takes her away to his private island where he leaves her with his dog for protection. The dog was great! He followed her everywhere. I love how when he heard her stomach growling, he put some of his dog food in front of her. Sebastian York and Ava Erickson were outstanding.

Be Prepared...to YAWN

I gave up on this book. The first half is about a girl that sits on a island by herself. Hours of her obsessing over food... The Hero, leaves her there and visits on occasion. The Hero's character was not developed at all - His reputation as a ruthless killer is worthless, because even those who "fear" him don't seem to respect him. Its like the author wanted us to believe that he was a self proclaimed bad-ass, but there was no evidence to back it up.

The Main Female in this book is just tiresome. She has no resolve and everything she does is halfhearted and childish. Even her thoughts are not fully developed.

I've given up on it with one hour of listening to go...Its just not worth it.

I love the performance of the readers - they've done the best they can with what they were given..

Boring!

I’m not a “mega fan” of this author in that she’s not an automatic “one-click” for me. However, I’ve read a number of her books. They’ve all been great. I’ve also read a couple of the other books she wrote in this “world” and thoroughly enjoyed (I didn’t read them in a specific order because I didn’t realize this was basically a series when I started). This story was a bit too slow and honesty quite boring. I read several reviews stating this and thought, no way! I like this author…she always does a stellar job! Ummm…please listen to these reviews! Underwhelming hero and heroine. Every time I thought the story was going to pick up, it didn't or the increased pace was short-lived. There were so many moments I thought, “oh man, this is going to be sooo good”…only to be disappointed. So many potentially amazing scenarios! And I don’t need sex or a kidnapping or something fantastical to happen to get into a story. For 35-40% of the book, Ivy is mostly alone on the island. When our guy Cyrus finally starts staying on the island and spending more time with Ivy, they generally sit around his office and play chess…or eat…for days on end…I have some suggestions for what you could be eating!! Just a snooze fest! The narration is wonderful though. Story picks up in the last 20% and is much better but not to the point that I would recommend. I can’t speak for all the books in this world, but I have read Trent and Matteo’s stories and would suggest reading those!

Loved it

I was hesitant on this - as I can be based on some reviews ..... BUT I trusted Ava’s writing and dove in. I love this story. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators really brought the story alive. I actually finished the book on kindle because I was impatient, but went back and listened to the final bit of audio anyway.

Ivy was strong and resilient. She is probably one of my favorite characters of all time. Experiencing the transformation of Cyrus was ❤️ everything. I will definitely revisit this book time and time again.

Great Story by Ava Harrison

This is one of my favorite books by this author - definitely a page turner. Add in Sebastian York for the narration, and it is a audio gold!
