Publisher's Summary
Bound by the Mafia’s code of honor, loyalty, and silence, Maria Lombardo has always dreamed of another life. But when her father dies, she must take over from him as head of the Lombardo clan, the most powerful member of the Sicilian Mafia, La Cosa Nostra.
On the other side of Palermo, the Amato family’s growing lust for power presents a dangerous problem. Maria is forced to take action that goes against every fiber of her being, or she will lose the respect of her clan. Falling for Simone complicates an already complex situation. As the two women’s attraction for each other deepens, secrets are revealed that threaten their future together.
Will Maria choose loyalty to the Cosa Nostra, or will she risk it all for love?
Best-selling lesbian romance author Emma Nichols weaves a breathtaking story of love, loyalty, and honor that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Great.
I really enjoyed Cosa Nostra. Marie certainly had to make hard choices and give up a lot for her family business. Great story. Jessica Jeffries did a great job with the narration.

It an interesting listen.
I never thought I'd have "is it normal to dip bread in wine" in my google search history, but you learn something new every day.
As for the story itself.. it's a little hard to follow the story in the beginning. It could just be me, but for some reason I can't fully sink into it and I find myself tuning it out from time to time. It could just be the small learning curves for this particular story, or the narration sometimes numbing my comprehension. The accent and setting is just a little bit more than I'm used to. But I'm not faulting the story for any of this, since it's more on me.
Overall I was able to slowly sink into it and I really enjoyed the story.

too much fluff and minutia
this story spends too much time and repetitive flowery description and detail but doesn't build up the relationship well a really interesting concept not handled well sadly and it ended up being quite predictable it could have been 2 hours shorter just by removing the word tenderness and actually giving stronger personalities to the characters
