I struggled with this book right from the first chapter. Becca, the main character, came across as incredibly frustrating—self-centered and entitled, especially given the circumstances. She’s angry about only inheriting half the ranch, despite being a stepchild from her mother’s second marriage, while Alex—whose father owned the ranch and who actually grew up there—is far more respectful and accommodating than she ever is to him.

It was hard to sympathize with Becca when she seemed possessive over things she had no real claim to. Instead of handling the situation with maturity, she has this grating internal monologue and acts so awkwardly that she makes everyone around her uncomfortable. She was written in a way that made it really hard to root for her. Maybe the story improves later, but by 20%, I was already too irritated to continue. Definitely not for me.
