Publisher's Summary

Dr. Sheila Tao is a professor of psychology, an expert in human behavior with her own hidden past. But she's not the only one keeping secrets. When Sheila began an affair with her sexy graduate assistant Ethan Wolfe, she knew she was playing with fire. Consumed by lust when they were together, she was riddled with guilt when they were apart. Now she's finally engaged to a good man, and it's time to end the dangerous liaison. But Ethan has something different in mind. He intends to make her pay for rejecting him.

As Sheila attempts to counter Ethan's increasingly threatening moves, he schemes to reveal her darkest, most intimate secrets by destroying her prestigious career...and then her. Caught in a terrifying cat-and-mouse game, Sheila must fight for her life and free herself from the ex-lover whom she couldn't resist - who is now the manipulative monster who won't let her go.

good story. narration was annoying

I enjoyed this story. it wasn't the best of Jennifer Hillier's but it was a good read. the narrator sounded like she had ice cubes in her mouth, she mis-pronounced words and it was generally annoying to listen to.

Not Jennifer’s best, probably the terrible narrator

I have enjoyed most of Jennifer Hillier’s later books - the stand alone’s are all great. This was hard to enjoy, probably would have liked it better if I read it myself. The narrator is terrible, she sounds like she has a cold - very nasally - not enjoyable to listen to. I won’t be getting “Freak” as an audiobook as it’s the same narrator….

Such a good book!

Loved it! I've bought all of Jennifer Hilliers audio books so far except the last 2. Because I read them then discovered audible. Such a good storyteller! Made me binge listen and read all her titles❤️

Narrator is horrible, better off reading the book

This is the first audible I've listened too that I've regretted. I think I would have enjoyed this story a lot more if I had read it myself. The narrator of this book either has a dental implant or slurred speech. What's worse is her accents...the southern male accent isnt great, but her New Zealand accent at one point makes you laugh when you shouldn't be laughing.

The story itself is interesting and I found wanting to know more about Ethan's character. It sucks that the author repeatedly describes the protagonist's fiance Morris as fat and overweight, as reasoning to be unattractive. Majority of people are overweight and that does not make them unattractive. It gets bit much. To the point where the listener or reader goes come on give me a break.

I've read the newer works of this author and you can definitely tell she has improved her writing/storytelling with each book. Kudos to her though she does craft fun stories all set in the same area.

Great story but performance could be better

I liked the pace of the story and the fact that I didn’t guess the ending. In my opinion the narrator had a hard time with the southern accent and male voices but most of all I could not get over how she pronounced and slurred some words. At least she didn’t sound like Siri though :-)

Thrilling!

This audible book was one of the best I’ve read. Just kept you going and the person reading did it perfectly - it dragged you into the story and I kept wanting to know what happened next. Excited for the next one.
