Publisher's Summary
The most terrifying Cross ever....
Years later, Alex leaves the FBI to work as a full-time psychologist. His life finally feels like it's in order...until Cross's former partner, John Sampson, gives him a chilling phone call. Sampson is tracking a Georgetown serial rapist whose brutal modus operandi includes threatening his victims with terrifying photos. Now Cross and Sampson need the help of the rape victims to stop the predator, but the women refuse to talk.
The most emotional Cross ever....
When the case triggers a connection to his wife's death, Alex may finally have a chance to catch the killer. Is this a chance for justice at long last? Or the culminating scene in his own deadly obsession?
From the man USA Today has called the "master of the genre", Cross is the high-velocity thriller James Patterson's fans have waited years for.

Latest Alex Cross Book
While I agree with the previous reviewer that this is a book that assumes that the listeners/readers have already read prior Alex Cross books, I must say that it was a great read for me, since I did read all of the other 11 or 12 Alex Cross books and have enjoyed his character since the beginning. His life with Nana Mama and the kids, the tragic death of his first wife, his love life, all of it is fun to keep up with and each new book gives just more of a glimpse into the Cross household. Of course his simple life is complicated by the nasty villians who he must track down. If you haven't listened to any James Patterson books, you might want to start with an earlier Alex Cross book, like Jack and Jill, Rosese are Red, Mary Mary, Along Came a Spider, Cat and Mouse or one of the others. Regaardless, I must give this book 5 stars. Well written, good suspense, and great plot.

I'm cross too
Not as disappointed as the other reviewer because I have read so many Alex Cross novels I do know the characters (i.e. he never exlains how little Alex came to be which will be confusing to a newbie particularly in the context of the storyline about Maria), but I have to agree, this was disappointing. I have been a big Paterson fan for a while, but this was stilted and predictable. The thrill is gone.

I waited for this?
First let me say Kudos to the job the narrators did – considering the awful material. I have waited a long time for this book and have read the entire Alex Cross series - this book was neither terrifying nor emotional. It is a true let down. I am, well was, a Patterson fan, but wonder if he receives endorsements for the corporate name dropping in his recent books and with no apparent reason in the story line. If you are a Patterson fan and you really need to know what happens to Alex - you may want to consider waiting until this book gets to the clearance bins, trust me, you aren't missing anything. Sorry Mr. Patterson - you have lost a loyal reader!

Sick villain
This was my first time reading Patterson, and I was not impressed. His villain ("the Butcher") was disgusting. Patterson went into too much detail about the Butcher's rapes, etc. Also uses the "F" word excessively (as opposed to a more tasteful author such as John Grisham who has enough mastery of the language to describe what he wants to without being profane).
Bad author. Dull story. Lame ending.

Loved It
To each his own I suppose. This was my first Alex Cross book. If this is bad (as others indicate) I can't wait to listen to others. I found the book to be well written and the story line as believable as most other crime novels. The ending could have a bit more suspense, but I liked it the same. Narration was one of the best I have heard so far. This best seller is worth the investment and time. Cheers!

Just boring
I was so disappointed in this novel, having been a fan of Patterson for many years. He does a poor job of developing the characters. I grew tired of the goody goody Alex Cross. What I disliked the most in this and other of Patterson's books is how Cross doesn't really investigate or do anything out of the ordinary to find the killer. He just happens upon the information. I was very disappointed.

Cross
I fell in love with Alex Cross & NanaMomma in the very first book I listened to. I love the way this character approaches problems - maybe it's the psychologist in him, maybe it's just the caring person. Alex CARES for people in a warm, human way while still seeking vengeance with a twist. NanaMomma is the sweet voice of reason, the rock that grounds the family which frees Alex to chase the bad guys & still get home in time to bathe the kids. Alex is no Dirty Harry but gets his man in the end in a most satisfying way. If you're a fan of serial thrillers, this is for you!

Amazing
This was an awesome book - loved listening to it - I listened to it on my hour long drive to work each morning - I found myself parked and listening to it beyond my destination - unfortunately it meant that I listened to people beep their horn at me when I return to the city (NY)each evening - so now you know it was worth listening to :) ENJOY!!!!!! It is not the ending you expect :) You will not be disappointed I can promise you :)
