Publisher's Summary

An inspiring story of hope and resiliency

On April 6, 2018, sixteen people died and thirteen others were injured after a bus taking the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to a playoff game collided with a transport truck in a rural intersection. The tragedy moved millions of people to leave hockey sticks by their front door to show sympathy and support for the Broncos. People from more than eighty countries pledged millions of dollars to families whose relatives had been directly involved in the accident.

Crossroads is the story of Kaleb Dahlgren, a young man who survived the bus crash and faced life after the tragedy with resiliency and positivity. In this chronicle of his time with the Broncos and the loving community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Dahlgren takes a hard look at his experience of unprecedented loss, but also revels in the overwhelming response and outpouring of love from across Canada and around the world. But this book also goes much deeper, revealing the adversity Dahlgren faced long before his time in Humboldt and his inspiring journey since the accident.

From a childhood spent learning to live with type 1 diabetes to his remarkable recovery from severe brain trauma that astounded medical professionals, Dahlgren documents a life of perseverance, gratitude and hope in the wake of enormous obstacles and life-altering tragedy.

Powerful and very meaningful for a mother who lost her son nearly seven years ago.

Very powerful. I especially liked Kaleb’s description of feelings about his new reality, his words and feelings resonated with me. I shared similar feelings and reactions following the loss of our son.

I did not like the narrator, he sounded mechanical, no emotion & mispronounced Saskatchewan city names. I wish I had read the book myself.

Well told story

I am really glad Kaleb wrote this book. I’m not a hockey fan, but I was very aware of this terrible accident and the impact it had on all of Canada. It was nice to hear from his perspective how amazing his team was and a little about each person that was lost. The focus of the story was not only how he got involved with the team but where he is now after. He did a great job honoring them.

Crossroads review

Good story. Did not like the narrator at all. He couldn’t pronounce the key word..Saskatchewan. Very monotone voice. Would have enjoyed Kaleb’s voice much more. I was planning to recommend having the story presented as a school book. However, as the story progressed Kaleb felt the need to throw out the f bomb several times. They could have buzzed that portion just like they do on tv shows. The swear words would eliminate it being read for educational purposes

Courage and Resilience

A must read, heartfelt, love of teammates/brothers, living your life with determination, courage and resilience so the others could live on. The manner in which the book is written is captivating, you are drawn into Kaleb's personal life, seeing things through his eyes. The narration is superb, the perfect selection for this book.

Thank you for sharing this life altering time with us. My heart goes out to you Kaleb, your family, the others who were hurt and who passed away, the first responders and all of your families.

Sad but uplifting

Out of tragedy often rises hope and something more..Kaleb shares his hopes as a young hockey player, making this hockey mom realize this could have happened to anyone. At the time, it hit home but this adds to the story. This is a story of perseverance, of holding memories dear and yet, of the need to move on while living in memory of others....very well done and the narration is at a good pace with just emotion emotion.... well worth the time...
