Publisher's Summary

An inspiring story of hope and resiliency.

On April 6, 2018, 16 people died and 13 others were injured after a bus taking the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to a playoff game collided with a transport truck in a rural intersection. The tragedy moved millions of people to leave hockey sticks by their front door to show sympathy and support for the Broncos. People from more than 80 countries pledged millions of dollars to families whose relatives had been directly involved in the accident.

Crossroads is the story of Kaleb Dahlgren, a young man who survived the bus crash and faced life after the tragedy with resiliency and positivity. In this chronicle of his time with the Broncos and the loving community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Dahlgren takes a hard look at his experience of unprecedented loss, but also revels in the overwhelming response and outpouring of love from across Canada and around the world. But this book also goes much deeper, revealing the adversity Dahlgren faced long before his time in Humboldt and his inspiring journey since the accident.

From a childhood spent learning to live with type 1 diabetes to his remarkable recovery from severe brain trauma that astounded medical professionals, Dahlgren documents a life of perseverance, gratitude, and hope in the wake of enormous obstacles and life-altering tragedy.

Powerful and very meaningful for a mother who lost her son nearly seven years ago.

Very powerful. I especially liked Kaleb’s description of feelings about his new reality, his words and feelings resonated with me. I shared similar feelings and reactions following the loss of our son.

I did not like the narrator, he sounded mechanical, no emotion & mispronounced Saskatchewan city names. I wish I had read the book myself.

unbelievable, true miracle, heartbreaking

Kaleb has done a very good job telling his story. He keeps you wanting to go on to the next chapter all the way through. He doesn't hold back and let's the audience know the true impact of that day and shares how he has chosen to deal with such a tragedy, such a huge loss and his injuries. His story is inspirational as is he.

One of the best books ever

Such an inspiring story of an incredible young man. The book portrayed incredible resilience in the face of such an unthinkable tragic event. The book showed the readers that with hard work and therapy (mentally and physically) and a positive attitude, one can rise above anything. He did an amazing job portraying all the people that lost their lives as well portraying the positive support of the people close to him. Throughout the book Kaleb looked for the good in everything and how he could make a difference. For this reason I loved this book and I know it will touch the lives of many people.

Touched my heart

This book touched my heart. Being a mom of 5 boys that have played and are still playing hockey and also a billet mom of Nipawin Hawks players for over 10 years that weekend really shook me. Having travelled the weekend prior with the same bus driver to La Ronge and Melfort with my boys for hockey I truly am grateful for all the gifts this life has to offer and the limited time we have. Thank you for your words it has helped me try to process that weekend.

Moving

I wasn't sure, at first, if I had the strength to listen to this tragic story, but decided it was the least I could do to honour the lives lost, and the survivors. Caleb's story is both moving and inspiring. What an articulate and amazing young man. I learned a lot about youth, dreams, hockey, courage, love and healing. Listened in one day. Well worth it.

Heartbreaking but inspiring

Lived in Saskatchewan for ten years and this is one tragedy I'll never forget. Heart breaking. This story is inspiring and uplifting that one player is able to beat all odds.
