Magic is a con finale!
Like I said in my first update when I started this novel, I put off reading this book for as long as I could. I wasn't ready to part ways with Kellen, Reichs, Ferius & the rest of the characters of this wondrous series. The writing in this series (like in the Greatcoats series) had kept me guessing as to how Kellen would be changed by the end of this series, but I also knew it wouldn't be in the ways I thought. I can't believe how much I enjoyed this novel & will continue to read any novel Sebastien de Castell writes. Speaking as a son & having a father (& stepfather) that I didn't meet their expectations of the type of boy they wanted. The writing of this hit such a tone within me by Mr. de Castell's writing style.

A good end to a wonderful series
This series has been a fun and thoughtful ride. While the protagonist can be rather whiny what teenager thrown into this kind of situation wouldn’t be? The arts of the Argosi are thoughtful little “tricks” that one can carry with them going forward. I loved this series!

humbled and longing for more
Sebastian, thank you for such a amazing series. also, thank you for the heartfelt words and connecting with me on a personal level and not a distant God level. Your books have not only kept me desiring what happens next, but fantasizing about what did happen next. this book like all others that I've read was an emotional rollercoaster. it had me laughing worried for characters and even shedding some tears. I have to say for sure this one had some of the biggest twists in it that I never even saw coming. and that says a lot my family say I love to ruin movies by guessing the plot 5 minutes into the movie. thank you for keeping my attention in books where I've had a lack of for roughly 20 years. Kellen and rycus will always be a part of me now

Already love it with 8 hours left, but with one major complaint through entire series...
I love Sebastien de Castell, and everything he’s written, as well as the incresible Joe Jameson. I LOVE this series, and these characters, and this world Mr deCastell has conjured. That said, I have one major gripe with each & every book in the series & it is this. Kellen keeps to this self- loathing shtick, and his family & all the people surrounding his who also treat him so wretchedly never even have the decency to truly admit their cruelty & flaws. I still have a ways to go in this book & without giving any spoilers away, a critical scene has juat happened with his father & sister in the family home...once again, despite any possible good intentions, K is treated as the petulant, ungrateful one by his father first, and worse, by his sister, her father’s worst accomplice. It drives me nuts. Though, lime Kellen, I’ll still come back for more & pre- order books, too. For now. But Kellen needs some true redemption bestowed upon him! And maybe some happiness, too. Pretty please?
