When it comes to disease, who beats the odds - and why?

When it comes to spontaneous healing, skepticism abounds. Doctors are taught that "miraculous" recoveries are flukes, and as a result, they don’t study those cases or take them into account when treating patients.

Enter Dr. Jeff Rediger, who has spent over 15 years studying spontaneous healing, pioneering the use of scientific tools to investigate recoveries from incurable illnesses. Dr. Rediger’s research has taken him from America’s top hospitals to healing centers around the world - and along the way he’s uncovered insights into why some people beat the odds.

In Cured, Dr. Rediger digs down to the root causes of illness, showing how to create an environment that sets the stage for healing. He reveals the patterns behind healing and lays out the physical and mental principles associated with recovery: first, we need to physically heal our diet and our immune systems. Next, we need to mentally heal our stress response and our identities.

Through rigorous research, Dr. Rediger shows that much of our physical reality is created in our minds. Our perception changes our experience, even to the point of changing our physical bodies - and thus the healing of our identity may be our greatest tool to recovery.

Ultimately, miracles only contradict what we know of nature at this point in time. Cured leads the way in explaining the science behind these miracles, and provides a first-of-its-kind guidebook to both healing and preventing disease.

A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books

"Rediger proposes a sweeping overhaul of the practice of medicine, and he makes a darned good case for it. The history he recounts, the clinical trials he cites, the personal stories of people with real names lend his argument the force of a hurricane... At the end of his book, Rediger issues a call to join him in his crusade. Demand a medical system that emphasizes health, not sickness. 'Help us sound the revolution,' he writes. It’s an utterly persuasive message." (Washington Post)

Hope meets Science

This audiobook was a great find for me. I had heard the author interviewed on a radio station, and then found myself seeking out the book a month later when I was diagnosed with a blood cancer. I listened to the book 3 times over duding the next few months (among others). It gave me a great feeling of optimism as I navigate my journey. I recommend the book to anyone going through health challenges, or family and friends who want to offer hope and support. The one thing we can control along the way is our mental state - and I found this book very helpful to keeping an upbeat attitude through my treatment and bone marrow transplant. I am now in remission, and while I don't know how long it will last, I will enjoy every minute of it...

Great book!

Excellent commentary about a long overlooked subject: the power of knowing oneself deeply enough to facilitate the healing process. The four pillars are excellent. Thank-you Dr. Rediger.

A Good read despite anecdotal examples

Overall I enjoyed this book, food for thought. i would have preferred less John of God examples of spontaneous healing. Maybe that was easy source material for this book but that whole situation is strange. i think the objective view of studies and research out there is good so as not to make false promises. i do think the argument is hope for severely ill people even if healing is an outlier in most cases. i think this should be just one of your sources on this subject, also Blue Zones is good to look at the opposite perspective of what long living people do to get there is a balance on this topic but more studies should be done on illness as some people so follow conventional treatments while others refuse. It would be helpful if more studies could be done. But how can scientists study thought, belief or quality of meditation? Difficult to find clear objective empirical data.

A must read for healing and living life well

I cannot recommend this book enough. It offers a comprehensive exploration of different pathways to healing and living life well. There is a tapestry of stories that animates the book and brings the lessons alive. There is something intimate about this read, almost like sitting down with a friend who is opening up about their own personal health struggles and that sense of intimacy drives the point home that there is a fundamental differentiation we must learn to make in the medical system between a person and their prognosis.
