Despite having never held public office and burdened with a personal and professional resume that, given 10 minutes of research and a basic $20 background check, would not warrant even an initial interview for an entry-level position in any serious American workplace, the question that has gnawed at me throughout the Trump era is; how in the world did this transparently narcissistic conman, habitual gas lighter, convicted felon and manifestly ignorant serial business failure manage to win more than 214 million votes in the last decade to be our nation’s CEO? Simply put, how did this happen?

While there’s obviously a basket of deplorables that totally bought into Trump’s relentless, fake-populist bullshit from Day 1, there aren’t 70+ million of them in there. So, what explains the existence of millions of non-deplorable and otherwise sensible Trump voters?

Cut Weeds Grow Back seeks to address the historical background, political trends, and shifting cultural moods that, when understood, make some sense of this most deplorable period in our post-civil war history.

The MAGA movement must be completely eradicated, roots and all, from our governing institutions or America runs the risk of this pseudo populism on steroids growing back, only the next time, it will likely be wielded by sociopaths with some actual talent.
