Publisher's Summary

Samantha Dugan and Abe Lally are best friends. They steal kidneys. They have their reasons.

Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life.

Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

Cut and Run was performed by Meg Ryan, D’Arcy Carden, Sam Richardson, Rachel Bloom, Thomas Lennon, Ed Begley Jr, Eugene Cordero, Baron Vaughn, Carlos Alazraqui, Arturo del Puerto, Dustin Ybarra, Aaron Abrams, Ginger Gonzaga, Greg Santos, Oscar Montoya, Roberta Valderrama, and Shulie Cowen.

“Dynamite Lady”, an original song, was written and performed by Aimee Mann and Ted Leo.

Cut and Run was written and co-produced by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker

Really fun

It felt like a long Thrilling Adventure Hour sketch in the best way possible. The cast was excellent and the writing was really fun.

Enjoyable

Loved the plot of the book. I enjoyed the going forward and back in time with storytelling. I found the narrators spoke very fast and almost in a cliche teenage way, which at first it sort of takes you by surprise but you get used to it afterwards. Overall, it was very nice listening to this book

Cute story

I was skeptical about this one but then found myself really liking it. The narration was superb. The story line was cute. I recommend giving it a try.

Not For Me

Humor tends to be rather hit or miss, and this was a miss for me. It was the tagline "a light-hearted dark comedy" that caught my interest, and the mention of D'Arcy Carden that had me giving it a try for as long as I did. But the story was hard on the "light-hearted" and not nearly as dark nor as comedic as I would have expected, given the subject matter. In fact, one of the things that was unappealing to me was this feeling that the story thought that it was darker than it was.

The premise of this story is that Sam and Abe are part of a crime ring that harvests organs. Their modus operandi is that Sam seduces married men looking for something on the side, and then Abe harvests the organ. They wait until they are away from the scene, and then their contacts set off a chain of events that will result in the victim receiving proper medical care. One day, as Abe is rearing up to propose to his girlfriend Katie, their mark is the very pretty and ambiguously-wedding-ring-wearing Jeff, but when things don't seem to go quite right, Sam, who can't help but like him, returns to the scene of the crime. This sets off a chain of events that result in Sam, Abe and their boss Gordon getting in trouble with the higher ups of their crime group.

Basically, the organ harvesting is almost irrelevant after the first part of the story, and then it turns into this half-hearted skit about a bunch of good-hearted but ambiguously criminal individuals perhaps over their heads in a crime group.

I think the performers did a great job--I can't think of a single way any of them could have done better...but at some point, if the dialogue isn't engaging, no amount of great voice performances can make enjoyable what is not.

So...there's nothing objectively wrong with this, but it isn't for me.

Worth every second

I loved it! It has an outstanding cast of people who know what their doing. The story flowed at a good pace that keeps you interested. Between the voice work and added sound effects it dragged you in.

The humor of it is a little dark, I mean it's about kidney theives that's expected, but it had me laughing so hard at times.
It's worth the listen.

meh

The voice talent is outstanding!!! The story isn't for anyone that is sensible to foul language, defiantly not for kids. I didn't find humor in this Audible Original.

So much stupidity by so many characters...

There was possibly supposed to be a story between all the gibberish, but there was barely any reference to the intended kidney thievery or anything else. No humor, not even a chuckle. Unbelievably disappointing.

Not for me

I wanted to like this book. It sounded fun and quirky but I guess there is a such thing as too quirky. I couldn't get into this book. I don't know if it was the all over the place story or the cast of characters narration or what but I couldn't keep with it.
This is a short audiobook, at only 2 hours and 44 minutes.
