À propos de cet audio

Book one in the new Fae Out of Water series.

Temp worker David Evans has been dreaming of Dr. Alun Kendrick ever since that one transcription job for him, because holy cats, that voice. Swoon. So when his agency offers him a position as Dr. Kendrick’s temporary office manager, David neglects to mention that he’s been permanently banished from offices. Because, forgiveness? Way easier than permission.

Alun Kendrick, former Queen’s Champion of Faerie’s Seelie Court, takes his job as a psychologist for Portland’s supernatural population extremely seriously. Secrecy is paramount: No non-supe can know of their existence. So when a gods-bedamned human shows up to replace his office manager, he intends to send the man packing. It shouldn’t be difficult - in the 200 years since he was cursed, no human has ever failed to run screaming from his hideous face.

But cheeky David isn’t intimidated, and despite himself, Alun is drawn to David in a way that can only spell disaster: When fae consort with humans, it never ends well. And if the human has secrets of his own? The disaster might be greater than either of them could ever imagine.

The story is funny and entertaining in a cute fun read kinda way. The humour and cute aww moments had me really liking the book. Does have more of a quick ending though, but there is the next book in the series. So maybe that's why.

Love the narrator but this time a couple of the accents (mainly one) where a bit off. Still like the voices and accents chosen but they didn't seem to quite line up to what they were supposed be.

What really threw me off was the pause between chapters. A few times I thought I lost my connection or it stopped playing.

A Neat Take On The Retelling

Easy fun listen and it kept me interested. The narrator is one of my top four favourites.

The story of welsh mythology with a love story.

OK, I'm typically not a fan of this author. I’ve read a few of her books and they have all disappointed me, so imagine my surprise when I'm 20 chapters in and still listening to this book without skipping forward. I will say I'm getting myself into the frame of mind to sit and watch cringey Hallmark Christmas movies and this book mimics those. Maybe it's also Joel Leslie's narration that made this book better. Aside from the fact that he missed the mark on the British accent, his narration definitely aided my enjoyment of this book.

If you are looking for a deep romance, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for the typical paranormal shifter/magic type romance where there isn't any building of the romance there is an attraction it gets deep in a nanosecond and in no time, there are exclamations of love, then this book is for you. I can't remember if the other books that I've read by this author contained the same type of humor but in this book, it worked, and in this book, I found it funny.

With all that said, I will admit there are some things lacking in this book. For example, Owen, the ex-lover who was killed. Until this story was explained in chapter 17 or so, I thought they were escaping together and when they were ambushed, Owen was killed. However, that is not the case, so this longing for Owen made no sense, but the guilt Alun held is exactly that, Guilt. Not because he couldn’t save Owen in an ambush while sneaking off, but because he was so tunnel visioned by his love for Owen that he unknowingly led killers to Owen’s doorstep and that got Owen and his entire clan killed. He wasn't even present when the massacre happened.

I understand the guilt, but the author's revelation of how and why Alun was cursed made ZERO sense. I won't spoil that little nugget of confusion for anyone; you can read and open that box of WTF for yourself.

I won't spoil the story, but the revelation in chapter 20 made me roll my eyes for the first time in this book. I couldn't understand why the druid aunt, when revealing the truth to David didn’t give him the full truth and didn't warn him. This felt like a desperate attempt by the author to prolong the novel.

One other fault that I find with this author is, her books are always unnecessarily long. There are a lot of paranormal romances that are 9 to 11 hours of listening time, however, those books typically have some sort of adventure/mystery or conflict running parallel to the love story throughout the book. This book, however, has the entire love story in the first 8 hours, then in the last three hours, it throws conflict and danger on every second page. When one conflict ends, you barely have time to inhale before something else begins. That's when I remembered one of my pet peeves with this author; her overenthusiastic way of trying to make the story exciting by making you feel like you are running a gauntlet. I can see where this may make sense, build the couple up, make sure they're solid, then throw them into chaos, and I have complained in the past with other books that have too much going on on the adventure/thriller/mystery side and very little romance, but there needs to be a happy medium. If you don't get to chapter 17, you miss the entire conflict and all the “exciting” parts of this novel.

One last add, if you were looking for super steamy, fan yourself spicy scenes, this is not the book for you.

I liked it...surprised!

This wasn't bad, but it definitely felt long. the drama really didn't sync with me, felt like just another paranormal. I didn't much care for the plot, and I'm not interested in the world building. As for the characters, they're cute, but I'm also not interested in self-flagellation. I do like that the "smaller/weaker" character didn't have to sacrifice their freedom for safety, but I'm not a fan of how the book just plot armored it.

cute but simple

The story was not so bad, but the main character--David-- really got on my nerves. I'll never read another book about a clumsy-but-endearing female lead the same. I thought it was so annoying for a male to be so cutesy yet find solutions to everyone's problems, why should it not be as annoying for a female... ugh. The fact that David was a man really made the stereotype stand out, it did not slide well with me. Anyway, I thought the voices were a bit harsh too, they were not sexy at all when they were supposed to be, Nice take on the beauty and the beast, still.

Interesting variation
