Publisher's Summary

A helicopter crash alters a Coast Guard rescue swimmer's life forever in Cutting Edge, a suspense thriller audiobook from USA Today best-selling author Ward Larsen

Trey DeBolt is a young man at the crest of life. His role as a Coast Guard rescue swimmer in Alaska offers him a rewarding job and limitless adventure. Then a tragic accident alters his life: during a harrowing rescue, his helicopter goes down.

Severely injured, DeBolt awakens in a seaside cabin in Maine, thousands of miles from where the accident occurred. His lone nurse lets slip that he has been officially declared dead, lost in the crash. Back in Alaska, however, Coast Guard investigator Shannon Lund uncovers evidence that DeBolt might still be alive. Her search quickly becomes personal, but before she can intervene, chaos erupts outside a cabin in the wilds of Maine.

The nurse who has been treating DeBolt is brutally killed by military-trained assassins. DeBolt is only saved when a bizarre vision guides him to safety. Soon other images appear, impossible revelations that are unfailing in their accuracy. As he runs for his life, DeBolt discovers he has been drawn into an ultra-secret government project. The power it bestows is boundless, both a gift and a curse. Yet one thing is certain: Trey DeBolt has abilities no human has ever known.

Very interesting version of a frequent theme

Who wouldn't like the entire internet accessible through thought by circuits wired into your brain! The possibilities are endless. And that's the problem. What are the aims of those who did this to Tray? How can he function without an identity since he is declared dead? And wait, people are trying to kill him? Of course they are.

Tray seeks to evade death, while seeing dozens around him taken out, and attempts to find the answer to the age-old question--WHY? He must find his creator and ask the question, but it is dangerous and risky, and uh-oh, he's not the only one? There are some great turn-arounds and chases. The best part is that he actually plays to his strengths in the end.

This is almost top-notch, but very engaging and interesting all the way through to the end. And there are so many sequel possibilities. The narration is almost perfect. It takes a little getting used to at first, but then his accents are fantastic. Good read!

Excellent military science fiction

DARPA thriller, lots of action, spy stuff, guns. Get this book for the same reason you pick up the new Vince Flynn novel!

Interesting premise, poor narration

The grave issues involved here were greatly diminished by the high-pitched, nasal voice of the narrator.

Excellent narrator

the story started off really well and was exciting but I found that it starting dragging out about two thirds in.
The performance by Ochlan was incredible, he has definatley become one of my favourite narrator's.

First of a series, I hope

The review that tipped me on the 'yes' side said - 'If you like Mitch Rapp, etc you'll like this one." So true! If you enjoy this genre, you're going to enjoy this. Cutting Edge is an appropriate title. Fortunately for me- not overly Sci-fi which would be beyond the sphere of my personal interest. But there's plenty of science herein, it just makes sense in a somewhat vague, laymen way. I was very willing to suspend my disbelief for the storyline.

Likable characters. Plausible set-up. Great action.

I will be reading more of this author and am HOPING this is the first in a series for Trey Debolt.

Interesting Theme

Not sure why I read this but I'm glad I did. From the ratings numbers, not enough have read it.
This is a good "assassin" book and is worth the time.
Narrator is good for this story.

Science fiction or Currently Possible ?

This is a good solid novel on all levels. Good character development, interesting plot, twists and turns and good pace. The door is left open at the end for a squeal or series. If one is produced I will download it too. Ochlan does a pretty good job on voices and accents but does get the pronunciation wrong on a few things.
