Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Publisher's Summary
Harry Bosch teams up with LAPD Detective Renée Ballard in the new novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly.
Detective Renée Ballard is working the night beat - known in LAPD slang as "the late show" - and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin.
Ballard can't let him go through department records, but when he leaves, she looks into the case herself and feels a deep tug of empathy and anger. She has never been the kind of cop who leaves the job behind at the end of her shift - and she wants in.
The murder, unsolved, was of 15-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally killed, her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now Ballard joins forces with Bosch to find out what happened to Daisy, and to finally bring her killer to justice. Along the way, the two detectives forge a fragile trust, but this new partnership is put to the test when the case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn.
Dark Sacred Night for the first time brings together these two powerhouse detectives in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. And it shows once more why "there's no doubt Connelly is a master of crime fiction" (Associated Press).

Bosch and Ballard start their journey
Once again, Michael Connelly brings you another great Bosch book in his series. This book has a great storyline with a few twists and surprises. And who better to narrate the story than Titus himself as he is joined by Christine who both sound their parts perfectly. Enjoy…

Another Connelly Winner
Great storyline with the right amount of suspense. Always a fan of Connelly's character development and this cross over does not disappoint. Looking forward to another in this series.

Sadly disappointed.
Having read all the Bosh series I was stunned by this offering. The format left me scratching my head. Ms Larkin was woefully lacking in her performance. I found it to be dull, boring and read in such a monotone that it literally put me to sleep! Her reading of Harry's dialogue was laughable. And I waited a year for this?

Irritating and thin
The story itself toggles back and forth between perspectives, which weakens both stories. It feels like a listing of tasks, not an in depth characterization of the events of the story. The female narrator’s attempt at male voices is comical and distracting. My mind kept wandering off and losing track of the story. I have previously read all of the Bosch books, some several times, so I am not coming at this as a casual reader.

Strange
Strange that you get both narrators' voices in the end, but the female does Bosch's parts throughout the book.

Disconcerting with two narrators
Understanding that writers, and audible production teams have to keep listeners interested I found the use of two readers, each speaking both male and female parts, rather disconcerting. The story line was good but the reading a little confusing.

Disappointing
Absent the feisty protagonist that for years kept me eager to read the next Bosch novel, I bailed out 2/3’ thru. Not a fan of the Ballard character. Can’t blame Larkin. After six seasons Welliver owns the voice of Harry Bosch. Tried to listen to the few Bosch books I missed read by others. Not the same experience. Welliver doesn’t read, he inhabits the character. Ideally M.C would give us another Bosch/Haller novel.
