Publisher's Summary

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett must accompany a Silicon Valley CEO on a hunting trip - but soon learns that he himself may be the hunted - in the thrilling new novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author C. J. Box.

When the governor of Wyoming gives Joe Pickett the thankless task of taking a tech baron on an elk hunting trip, Joe reluctantly treks into the wilderness with his high-profile charge. But as they venture into the woods, a man-hunter is hot on their heels, driven by a desire for revenge. Finding himself without a weapon, a horse, or a way to communicate, Joe must rely on his wits and his knowledge of the outdoors to protect himself and his companion.

Meanwhile, Joe's closest friend, Nate Romanowski, and his own daughter Sheridan learn of the threat to Joe's life and follow him into the woods. In a stunning final showdown, the three of them come up against the worst that nature - and man - have to offer.

David Chandler expertly narrarates another Joe Pickett adventure. This is easily one of the most enjoyable and series you'll ever listen to.

Wow

I think I say this after every Joe Pickett novel, but Wow, that’s the best yet. How, after all the novels, C.J. Box can still create such great story lines based on the same characters just proves how great of an author he is. The only bad part of it is that it had to end. Now the worst part, the year long wait for the next one.

I can’t wait till the next one!!
A huge thank you to the author CJ Box, by far my favorite writer, and the narrator David Chandler whose wonderful voice brings it to life!

Another great story

I wish there were more men like Joe Picket, C.J . Box, AND David Chandler. However, I am concerned that Joe’s body will not last much longer. Additionally I wonder if Mr. Box’s other books would not be more appealing (at least to me) if they were read by David Chandler.

intense. Controversial. Suspenseful.

This novel touched on some serious controversial topics that deserve consequences to the creators. as always, very well written and unable to turn it off!

Really top notch...

I have read a lot of captivating books by CJ Box in the Joe Picket series, so it’s hard to annoint this the best one, but it is certainly up at the top. The band is back together again, and with twitchy new cast members, complex bad guys and a lot of story lines blending, you will want to binge listen to this one. Enjoy!

Joe Picket and C.J. Box

No series has ever captivated me like the stories of Joe Pickett. I waited months for this latest book. I would like to thank C. J. Box for the captivating stories he has given his new and devoted audiences. I have read/listened to every Joe Pickett novel and I plan to continue. Thank you Mr. Box for hours of enjoyment!

I just love the Joe Pickett books...

...and, as always, David Chandler is pitch perfect as the narrator. I listened to the entire book in one day and was excited that it ended with a cliffhanger. Perhaps I won’t have to wait too long for the next book?

Listening, I thought that Joe was just having a really tough time and I really enjoyed the explanation at the end of the book. I think that the research and the details flesh out the story.

Not his best

Another thrilling Joe Pickett adventure, but it failed to satisfy. The characters were colorful but only sort of interesting. And the story wasn’t anything special or unique. Too much running/hiding from the bad guys. More lengthy descriptions of the terrain than I really wanted to read. And I always wonder why so many people are so awful to Joe. Seems like it gets worse with every book. One has to wonder why he puts up with it. As much as I wanted to love this book (because I waited for so long for it to be released), I just didn’t. Definitely read it, but don’t expect great things.

Disappointed!

Formula plot for C.J. Box , plus dippy dialogue, author needs to create new, unpredictable characters and settings. Sorry I wasted a credit for this one!
