Publisher's Summary

A newly-founded human colony world burned from orbit. A warship squadron of the galaxy’s oldest race ambushed and destroyed. An ancient enemy reborn in the darkness beyond the known stars.

The A!Tol Imperium and their new human subjects have had 15 years of relative peace. New colonies have been founded, new worlds explored, new ships built. Formal and informal alliances have been built with the ancient powers of the Core, leaving humanity and the Imperium seemingly on the brink of a new dawn.

The devastation of one of the newly-founded human colonies sends ripples of shock through the Imperium, and a battle fleet under Fleet Lord Harriet Tanaka is dispatched to the edge of the Imperium to find the culprits and bring them to justice.

Meanwhile, the destruction of a Mesharom Frontier Fleet squadron calls the Duchy of Terra’s newest warship, Bellerophon, into action and combat with a strange new power that bears all the signs of the Imperium’s age-old enemy, the Kanzi.

Aboard Bellerophon is Annette Bond’s stepdaughter, Morgan Casimir. The recently promoted junior officer will be thrust into the crucible of war and challenged to rise to her mother’s example in the face of this both new and ancient enemy …

Another hit

Great to see familiar characters in the universe. Terrific pacing with believable stakes. Good mix of SciFi with politics and alliances.

Difficult to finish-dum dum characters

story & universe are interesting. narrator did a pretty good job. BUT, stupid characters doing stupid things. Almost like the editor said, "great story but add some token lesbian, vulnerable self defeating characters, drop some f bombs & useless cuss words in there so the teenagers will like it, no military hierarchy, use scarasm responding to your supervisor, & make sure folks get a psych time out if they want". Needs better compelling characters & realistic responses to tragedy & adversity. The marines sounded like HS counselors; not like any marines I've ever met. Waste of my credit.

slow start

Slow start to the book with the introduction of a new enemy and main characters. The end was fast-paced like the rest of the series. Excellent narration and writing is always.

Decent Story

Contradictory mathematical details such as fleet number and time to travel made me have to give the book 3 stars. The overall story of the series is great and if they had less mistakes or confusion on the number ships travel. Also the performer doesn't perform normal emotions in the situations they are reading that well not sure it this is do to the author's described detail or the ability of the reader. I like the series enough to keep listening to it.

Good continuation of the series

I actually returned Book 1 of this series the first time I purchased it several years ago. Then in a screwup, I repurchased it about a year or so later forgetting I had ever bought it the first time. I caught on after I started listening to it but decided to give it another chance. I was glad I did as I got hooked on this story. FF to current day. This was a solid book 4. This series is not an award winner by any means. But it is a solid sci-fi series and worth a credit if you are looking for something in the genre. I have not heard many female narrators but Hillary Huber does a great job.

Good Half/Half story

Was worried that the story would focus solely on the step daughter, but it was in fact well balanced with changing perspectives that keep the story moving. Good mix of mystery, action, and strife. Can't wait to read the next one!

Universe isn't safe yet and Terra needs to stand.

Terra has made its mark in the Imperium but something doesnt care. People have aged and this interlude is based about a small child that has grown into a Naval Officer in the Ducal Malitia
