I’ve been aching for a new take of Greek mythology, and DAUGHTER OF CHAOS scratched that itch. Not only did it feature a new take on the gods and their power over mortals, but it used familiar characters from the lore to craft a thrilling adventure. 

Danae believes she is a fisherman’s daughter until fate decrees she stumble upon a golden apple. After ingesting it, she is imbued with powerful magic, visions, and the unwanted eyes of the gods. To survive, she will join a crew of legendary heroes with the hopes of discovering what her destiny means. 

The characters are great. Danae is tough, intelligent, compassionate, and filled with belief. She never gives up, even as despair sinks in, and she endures. The side characters—heroes like Heracles, Jason, Atalanta, and more—each have unique spins on them while remaining true to their tropes. Danae sees them as friends, but also recognizes the terrible things they are capable of. 

The plot was filled with adventure, dangerous creature, and secrets. The revelations that Danae uncovered not just about herself but about the gods made for great storytelling and put the gods in a clear light. I truly enjoyed following these adventures and can’t wait to read more! Perfect for fans of Greek mythology and retellings!
