This was a free audiobook from Audible so I gave it a try.

I didn't know anything about Dead Outlaw and wasn't even aware it was a musical until the first song came up. After finishing the recording I Googled reviews for the Broadway version and discovered people are most impressed not by the songs or story, but by how long the lead actor can stay perfectly still and not blink. This of course doesn't translate well to an audio-only version of the play.

A few of the songs are catchy and the performances are good but there's really not much to this play. I'm guessing if you've already watched it live you'll appreciate listening to this performance.

I’ve been following the 2024-2025 Broadway season and this recording of another tragic flop is just what I needed. The storytelling changed from the actual show a bit to make it easier to listen to but overall very well done.
