À propos de cet audio

"The audiobook read by Lauren Ezzo makes for compulsive, edge-of-seat listening." - Buzzfeed

"Ezzo's dark tone and emotional connection terrify and comfort listeners in equal measure. Not for the faint of heart."-AudioFile Magazine

Titanic
meets The Shining in S.A. Barnes’ Dead Silence, a SF horror novel in which a woman and her crew board a decades-lost luxury cruiser and find the wreckage of a nightmare that hasn't yet ended.

Claire Kovalik is days away from being unemployed—made obsolete—when her beacon repair crew picks up a strange distress signal. With nothing to lose and no desire to return to Earth, Claire and her team decide to investigate.

What they find at the other end of the signal is a shock: the Aurora, a famous luxury space-liner that vanished on its maiden tour of the solar system more than twenty years ago. A salvage claim like this could set Claire and her crew up for life. But a quick trip through the Aurora reveals something isn’t right.

Whispers in the dark. Flickers of movement. Words scrawled in blood. Claire must fight to hold onto her sanity and find out what really happened on the Aurora, before she and her crew meet the same ghastly fate.

everything about this book is so good, just could not stop listening to it

totally loved it

Creepy, engaging, twisty story. The narration is well done and engaging too. There is a lot of changes in the volume though so it does require some management of volume during intense parts.

Delightfully terrifying

A bit predictable but great heroine. Didn't figure out the mystery beforehand so the end was lots of fun.

Cross between Alien and Event Horizon

The Narrator made the novel much more bearable. I don't think I would have finished reading if the inflections and nuances weren't there with a physical read. It was an interesting start that quickly lost its edge.

disappointingly average

While the premise and some of the ghosts are interesting, the plot was repetitive, the characters are unlikable squabbling jackasses, the main character most of all (she's wishy-washy, needlessly wanna be tough prickly, self-pitying and just kind of a mess) and there's a needless romance shoe horned in. I finished it out of spite because I wasted a credit on it from all the good reviews other horror readers have given it on social media as "genuinely frightning". I didn't even find it vaguely creepy and had to listen to it on double speed to get through it. this would have been better if it ended at the halfway point and was a novella in a horror anthology.

Don't understand why this book has such a high rating

The plot was interesting enough. I definitely felt more engaged toward the end since it felt like a slow start but that might have just been because I was only half listening while doing other things.

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I’d read it because the narrator was overtly dramatic and annoying 87% of the time. It took me out of the story sometimes and I’d hade one or two thoughts about returning the book because of her. I strongly suggest listening to the sample first before buying it or just by the book.

One thing’s for sure, I’m steering clear of any audiobook narrated by Lauren Ezzo 😵‍💫

Meh, I guess

Lauren Ezzo gave a phenomenal performance that kept me coming back. The story itself was ok nothing overly fabulous but the narration did bring it to life.

not bad

Went from horror to love story. The narrator is amazing though, great performance. I will definitely check out more that she's done.

okayish

it was a wonderful experience and I simply could not stop listening to it. sci Fi always does horror so well and this was some of the best I have experienced

Horror done right

Dead Silence is a well written novel with great descriptions of space environments. However, I would hesitate to classify the book's genre as space-horror. Unfortunately, the story (especially the latter half) often sounds and feels like a space opera on account of the exaggerated performance. The use of first-person only adds to this overly emotional narration, which can at times be grating to listen to if you prefer traditional science fiction horror. I personally prefer Lauren Ezzo as a narrator in dramatic fiction books where the emotional delivery is less jarring.

If you prefer to follow a main character that is coping with trauma and attempting to overcome it, then you will enjoy this. If you, like me, prefer a more calculated and calm main character, then perhaps pass on this novel.

Good environmental descriptions, overly emotional performance
