Publisher's Summary

Melanie West is getting her life back on track after a messy divorce when her grandmother, Liza Harris, asks her to join her in opening a bed-and-breakfast inn. Together, Liza and Melanie purchase a purportedly haunted mansion on the Oregon coast and jump right into clearing out the cobwebs. But while attempting to remove wallpaper in an upstairs bedroom, the new B&B owners stumble upon a very real skeleton in their closet. The police suspect the skeleton is that of the wife of the previous owner of the B&B, but no one in town seems to want to say much about her.

As the inn owners try to juggle renovations with their own amateur investigations, their grand opening looms closer and closer - and a friendly ghost in their walls starts playing tricks. But it all comes crashing to a halt when a new body is found stabbed to death on the beach below the inn - the victim chillingly close in resemblance to Melanie herself. It seems someone doesn't appreciate newcomers prying into the small town's past, and now it's up to Melanie and Liza to get to the bottom of these murders to save their business - and their lives.

A good, cozy mystery.

Enjoyed the plot twists. The narrator is the best one I heard in Audible. Will definitely recommend!

I like it!

This is a great little cozy sleuth. Easy to follow good narrators. Entertaining, not to violent or heavy. Felt like an episode of murder she wrote.

So So Amateur Sleuth Novel

Slightly interesting story line, too predictable though. The performer/Reader has an anoying intonation in the role of narrator.

Disappointing

I don’t understand the current tendency to create unpleasant and utterly entitled protagonists. I have seen this is the haunted guest house series too, although, those books are way better written and there are moments of genuine humour.
Not only is this book poorly plotted but also very racist. And the author is not even aware of the racist undertones in their work.

struggled to finish

The main character had no personality, she's a boring blank slate that you don't care about.

The racism in the book was uncomfortable - referring to the Asian character by her full name, and repeatedly mentioning how one shop keeper was difficult to understand because of his accent and that she preferred to deal with others that she could understand... it was off-putting.

I finished it but only because I was in the car and it was on.

Grandmas Voice was too much

Don’t know why narrators often exaggerate the voices of certain characters. Old ladies….southern / Texan come to mind. Too often the voices of these characters come off phone because they are a little too exaggerated. When that happens the voice becomes reality annoying. I had to quit this listen because I just couldn’t take the fake granny voice.

Grating

I've given up on this book, mostly due to narration. I find the cartoony English accent extremely grating, it actually gives me a headache to listen.
