À propos de cet audio
Still waters run deep in this baffling new case for the Charity Shop Detective Agency!
Wild swimming in February? No, thank you. It sounds like torture to Fiona, Daisy, and Partial Sue, the retired ladies behind the counter at Dogs Need Nice Homes charity shop.
Still, no one ever died of plunging into the icy waters around the sleepy little English town of Southbourne. Until now.
The body of Colin Barclay, retired PE master and wild-swimming fanatic, washes up in a secluded cove.
Days later, a shifty new customer comes calling at Dogs Need Nice Homes. "Is this where you solve murders?" she asks, her eyes darting wildly round the shelves of bric-a-brac. "I think I have one..."
This woman belongs to Colin's swimming club—and she's convinced his death was no accident. It was murder.
She just needs the ladies to dive in and help her prove it...
©2025 Peter Boland (P)2025 Podium AudioAlso as per usual, Zara Ramm's performance is excellent. (Her performance of The Chronicles of St. Mary's and The Time Police awesome series of novels is particularly so :-) ) One funny thing: although her attempt at an American accent yields better results than those of the overwhelming majority of British narrators, it's still not right. Listening to the first couple of sentences of her attempt in Death of a Wild Swimmer, I wondered just WHERE the character was supposed to be from. I then clued in that they were supposed to be from the U.S., and rather painfully listened to the rest of their speech. However, listening to Zara Ramm's attempt at an American accent was less painful than listening to most other British narrators' attempts ;-)
(N.B. For anyone reading this & suffering from depression: once a person is in a seriously depressed state [called a "major depressive episode" in the DSM-5-TR, and a "Moderate" or "Severe" "Depressive Episode" in the ICD-11], their brain NEEDS some PSYC medication to break it out of its current, unusual chemical state. The medication may not be needed after the severity of the depression has been lessened, but is REQUIRED at first. [Empirical evidence data obtained through decades of reliable, valid research demonstrates this, along with the fact that combining the medication with Cognitve-Behavioural-Therapy yields the most positive results :-) ] It's sort of like how a hot tub with particularly contaminated or unhealthy water requires chemical "shocking", before a finer balance of the water's various ingredients can be achieved.)
Another excellent book in the series :-)
