Warrior Alyssa ana’Raisa would do anything to protect her home, the Fells, and her legacy, the Gray Wolf line. But as a prisoner of Empress Celestine, Lyss is forced to turn her fearsome talents as an army commander against her beloved homeland. Refusal would swiftly lead to her death, and her death would end the Gray Wolf line.

In Lyss’ absence, Fellsmarch Castle swarms with intrigue, deception, and a primordial threat. Destin Karn, a Southern spymaster with a hidden agenda of his own, might be the queendom’s only hope of defeating the forces aligned against the Seven Realms...as well as the enemies within the castle.

Great story

I loved this story. the narrator was really hard to get used to, I couldn't decipher who was who from her accents. I almost returned the book several times because of it. I stuck through it because the story was great, I have always enjoyed chima's work.

Wow this took forever

After three books of well executed tension and build up, all the important meet up in this book. Let me tell you it is like pulling teeth with every single interaction. The amount of times that the words "it struck a chord of memory in her/his mind but they didn't have time to focus on it" and that's the reason the plot doesn't advance.... it's mind bogglingly slow. even when the characters see somebody they know well, it takes 5 minutes of listening to a description of somebody's eyes to figure out who it is. Things are happening, this is supposed to be a climax of a massive mystery and storyline, and half of the book is spent on people forgetting massively important information. At what was supposed to be a huge interaction between two main characters, I skipped 4 minutes ahead to see if the interaction had begun upon meeting. It hadn't, and in fact it had taken 4 minutes of dialogue for "recognition to flood her senses". so slow for absolutely no reason

Quite slow...

I was excited to finish the series, but for most part I lost interest because it felt like it took forever to get anywhere and there really isn't much action. The end wasn't that exciting either. I was hoping for a more epic conclusion. The original series remains the best story of this fantasy realm.
