It's a very rare mystery novel that can leave one in tears at its conclusion. Ms. Porter's utterly restrained and compelling reading makes this powerful story quietly and completely overwhelming. Why hasn't she recorded all the Monk novels?!

I couldn’t stop listening to this book, it was very well written. The narrator was excellent, she really did a wonderful job portraying the characters. I would have given this book more stars if I could. I love Anne Perry’s books!

I don’t want to give spoilers, but for me, this plot was not entertainment. Disturbing & tragic deep dive into systemic abuse in the 19th century. I couldn’t finish it.
