Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

The stakes are personal, hot, and dangerous in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker's riveting Mountain Mercenaries novel.

As tough as Everly Adams may be, the Colorado Springs SWAT officer is near a breaking point. Her fifteen-year-old half sister, Elise, has disappeared from Los Angeles without a trace, and the window to find her is closing fast. Committed to the search is Mountain Mercenary Kannon "Ball" Black. He and Everly already have a history - of rubbing each other the wrong way.

Still, Everly has to admit the man is heart-stopping. His brash alpha swagger takes her breath away. And most importantly, as a former Coast Guard first responder, Ball has what it takes to bring Elise home.

Nobody's buying the LAPD's "runaway" theory. And the fear that Elise is the victim of a human trafficking ring is a gut-punch that Everly and Ball can't ignore. If only the trail were that clear cut. Because the one they're following is more insidious and intimately dark than they could have imagined.

Now as the bond between Everly and Ball grows stronger, so does the heat. And as the stakes rise, so does the danger.

second time listening

i really enjoyed this series.
i just finished book 5 of my second time through.
i like the consistency of the narrator through all the books.
i like that the story can be a 'stand alone' but very happy that it is a series.

i read/listen for entertainment, not to pick apart the story or the writing.
i would recommend this series.

This is the best series!

one of my favorite Susan Stoker series, and the narrators do an excellent job of bringing the characters to life! I love that Ro has a British accent.

Really love this series

This was a very entertaining listen that I couldn't put down. Love the plot, characters and the narration. This series have alpha males that know when to back down, females that can take care of their self but at times need a strong male to lean on, don't get me wrong they have no problem standing up for their selves but it is always nice to have a partner. There we times I held my breath, other times I just closed my eyes and hoped for the best. Black goes beyond the call of duty to make a lovely lady fall in love with him. It isn't going to be easy Everly isn't going to let him stand in her way she needs to find and keep her sister safe and that is just what she will do. But sometimes she goes so far left in trying not to hurt the ones she loves. It was a great listen that I will listen to again.

The narrator did a wonderful job narrating she really pulls on your heartstrings with the emotion in her voice. Her normal voice is lovely I never get tried of listening to her. Her character voices are great, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. She really makes you feel you are apart of the story and can visualize what is happening. There was no background noise, no volume changes just a delightful listen that I got lost in.

BETTER

This was better than the others in this series. Everly took care of most of her own business & didn't whine about it afterwards.

Long story

The cussing in conversation is like 10 year olds trying to be cool. It's stupid and unnecessary. Interesting story though.

Even a good story is a lousy story when the author can’t come up with an end to it!

What happened? Did the author’s brain just freeze in the last chapter? Or, did she think that “that” was truly an ending.
It appears to be the easy way out these days for authors and film writers to just quit…
That was half of a novel. Where is the ending? What a disappointment & weakness on the authors part‼️ What… did your house just catch fire or did some numbskull actually let you get away with submitting an unfinished manuscript?
This could have been a whole different review! But she blew it, big time! Nice beginning, interesting middle, but, 😏no completion!!!
Don’t bother wasting your time and money like I did‼️‼️ What a jip‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Great series

This is a fantastic series and each book gets better and better. I’m really enjoying the camaraderie between all of the men on the Mountain Mercenaries team and I can’t wait to enjoy the next book in the series.

He's a Keeper

I love this series, and have enjoyed each of the stories so far. This story, though, I really loved because it simply didn't go as I expected it to. But then, Ball and Everly haven't managed to run on smooth roads since they met thanks to Ball's big mouth and his assumptions based on past history. Everly's not going to cut him any slack, either. He screwed up, acted like a jerk, and she's holding him accountable.

But as the mission to find Everly's sister continues, and walls finally begin to erode, we discover the real man behind the gruff words of Kannon "Ball" Black. And this man, isn't too big a jerk to look at himself and realize he might need to recalibrate his views on a few things that happened in his past. Geez. He's a keeper.

This fast paced and well-written novel is another great addition to the Mountain Mercenaries series.
