Publisher's Summary

Here is the dramatic story of young, docile Emil Sinclair's descent - led by precocious schoolmate Max Demian - into a secret and dangerous world of petty crime and revolt against convention and eventual awakening to selfhood. A brilliant psychological portrait of a troubled young man's quest for self-awareness, this coming-of-age novel achieved instant critical and popular acclaim upon its 1919 publication. A landmark in the history of 20th-century literature, it reflects the author's preoccupation with the duality of human nature and the pursuit of spiritual fulfillment.

good book but confusing

I read it as a kid and enjoyed it. I read it again as an adult and enjoyed it as well, however I find it rather confusing still. I know it has to do with elements of yogic practice, looking inward, and meditation.. but other aspects are altogether unexplained and left to your own best guess... leaves you hanging wondering "what was that all about?"..

CAPTIVATING

A truly amazing story I loved every moment of it. The story of pure philosophy a life’s perspective of wanting to know more. More please. I love the fantastical journey of the mind of the main character and could absolutely empathize with him every step of the way. Truly a beautiful story thank you for sharing it!
