A Quick Dark Fantasy Listen
A short, compelling read about one part of the Darkling's origin. It is well written and moves easily through its plot. The young Darkling, now known as Eryk, and his mother make their way to a village of Grisha. From there, they make new friends and acquaintances, and discover the complications that come with such relationships.
While the story is nothing overly dramatic or complicated, it is well written and engaging enough that I enjoyed it over a morning. I listened to the audiobook and can say that Ben Barnes soothing voice added to the atmosphere. That it was a full production with sound effects and multiple performers made the story all the more immersive. Perfect for fans of the series as well as new readers who want something quick to enjoy during their day.

I got it purely for Ben Barnes. The darkling is one of the great grey villains in the grisha trilogy and I liked the backstory. The audio production was a fun listen with a lot of sound effects, lots of different narrators and of course we got the real Darkling, Ben Barnes, narrating the story.
Overall, not worth a full credit as it's super short, but a nice addition to your library!

I hope they write more
It was too short but it was a great story, it gave us another reason why he was made into a villain.I love the series and this has been an amazing addition, I hope they make more :)

Love the Darkling
I’ve always had soft spot for the Darkling even though he is the bad guy. Demon in the Wood shows he wasn’t born a villain, but shaped that way due to his circumstances. Also, Ben Barnes’ voice is fantastic!

Too short for 1 audible credit
Like others I feel duped that I spent a full credit on just over an hour of book. I had to check that I’d not just clicked on a Sample by mistake- nope I wasted a credit. The story isn’t bad, it’s just the beginning of something left unfinished.

Super fun!
This was a very creative little drama that I throughly enjoyed (though I wish it was longer). I’m not sure it would be worth the price but I do think it’s worth a credit if you have a membership. Ben Barns kills it!

A small glimpse into the darkling's history
I always love new content for the Grishaverse! The story was well told and gave a small glimpse into the darkling's history. I really wish it was longer to provide time for more character development and adventure.

Amazing Audio Book!
This Audio Book is Amazing! The performance of all narrators is so great that i felt like being drawn into Leigh Bardugo's fantasy world, excited and feared at the same time. If i had not watched the Shadow and Bone tv series first, this would have been the perfect trailer. It This one got hold of my heart. I love it, and keep up the good work!!

I wish it was longer!!
LOVED this story. I’ve never listened to an audiobook so immersive. Multiple readers helped deliver an incredible performance, and having Ben Barnes’ Darkling narrate was AMAZING.
I wish I had just bought it instead of using an audible credit, 1 hour was too short. Hopefully there is another prequel of other Darkling stories narrated by the same cast that is longer!
