Publisher's Summary

A neurodivergent's guide to embracing your true self and finding your happily ever after.

Growing up, Chloé Hayden felt like she'd crash-landed on an alien planet where nothing made sense. Eye contact? Small talk? And why are you people so touch-oriented? She moved between 10 schools in 8 years, struggling to become a person she believed society would accept, and was eventually diagnosed with autism and ADHD. When a life-changing group of allies showed her that different did not mean less, she learned to celebrate her true voice and find her happily ever after.

This is a moving, at times funny story of how it feels to be neurodivergent as well as a practical guide, with advice for living with meltdowns and shutdowns, tips for finding supportive communities and much more.

Whether you're neurodivergent or supporting those who are,  Different, Not Less will inspire you to create a more inclusive world where everyone feels like they belong.

Chloé Hayden is an award-winning actor and disability advocate, motivational speaker and social media influencer whose story of being 'different, not less' has attracted a worldwide following. She stars as Quinni in Heartbreak High, the Netflix remake of the iconic Australian series.

This book is one of the single most valuable things I’ve acquired in my life.

Diagnosed with autism at 26, my life has been a whirlwind of hardship and trying to find myself, so that one day I might even begin to find my happily ever after. There’s no way I could possibly summarize my thoughts into this review, so I hope you just take my word for it and read away.

Having found Chloe and all her work, I’m infinitely inspired, and if you’re reading this I hope I get to meet you one day. From a new fan of enormous quantification, •thank you• -Phalen.

Not the most inclusive

Overall this was good but some of the language used (like "psychotic") goes against what the author later advises listeners not to use. I also found there was a lot of gendered language without noting differences for autistic folks beyond the binary. I liked it more as a memoir than an educational read. For educational purposes, I'd recommend Unmasking Autism by Dr. Devon Price instead.

I feel so seen right now

Excellent book. Unbelievably relatable. Not uncommon for me to feel like I'm the only person who feels this way, or who had experiences like that as a child. But this book summarized my life experience in one go and offered, for the first time in my life, the idea that maybe it's okay for me to be exactly who I am.

Loved it!

I am the mother of an autistic child. My son is my world. I could not love him more. I struggle constantly trying to figure out the right way to support him so that he can find true happiness and fulfillment. I’m drained from reading all the text books from Doctors. I need and love to hear directly from Autistic individuals. Hearing Chloe explain first hand what meltdowns feel like, how a sensory overload feels.., and how to help is beyond helpful.
This book was real with the challenges and all the beauty of each individual. It made me cry and smile. It also taught me so much to help me be a better side kick and advocate for my incredible son. This is a must read if you want true insight and inspiration.

Worth every second, such a good listen!

Chloe is absolutely wonderful to listen to. I normally play audiobooks at about 1.5x speed and it sounds distorted a lot but this one was perfect!
As someone who has been diagnosed AuDHD as an adult, this book truly made me feel seen and not so alone. Chloe literally makes it seem as if you're just a friend that she is sharing her life with and her opinions and views are extremely valuable. 10/10, would recommend to anyone who has autism or is wanting to better understand those who do.

A very relatable & honest book.

Finished this book in roughly 2 days. I very much enjoyed it. It was so relatable to my life, especially my childhood and teen years. I liked how open and honest this book was, it isn't sugar-coated. More people need to read/listen to this book. I appreciated how Chloe included ways people can support us neurodivergents. 5 stars, 10/10 I recommend this book.

Must read for every autistic woman or friend of one!

I love Chloe’s TikTok’s, that’s how I found this book, and WOW, she did not disappoint! I loved her stories and personal anecdotes. This book is informative, and both heart warming and wrenching. I appreciated the trigger warnings!

Cool book, will listen again

It’s a real good listen because, you have an enthusiastic narrator, obviously spent a quality amount of time to help understand internal dialogue. Resourcing to thrive with mental health awareness and the impact it has on individual developmental stages.
Glad I got a listen, happy new year
