À propos de cet audio

A friend once said of Churchill: "He is a man of simple tastes; he is quite easily satisfied with the best of everything." But dinners for Churchill were about more than good food, excellent champagnes, and Havana cigars. "Everything" included the opportunity to use the dinner table both as a stage on which to display his brilliant conversational talents, and an intimate setting in which to glean gossip and diplomatic insights and to argue for the many policies he espoused over a long life.

In this riveting, informative, and entertaining book, Stelzer draws on previously untapped material, diaries of guests, and a wide variety of other sources to tell of some of the key dinners at which Churchill presided before, during, and after World War II.

Dinner with Churchill is a very interesting take on how influential dinner with Winston could really be.
Great read.

Intriguing

From start to finish, an absolute pleasure. It is a must for all Churchillians, with plenty of stories that I have never heard before, or with a different perspective from old favourites.

Must listen for any Churchillian

Really enjoyed this book. It gave me many more insights into Churchill than I have gathered from other works, it brought his personality out, little quirks and such. I was entertained by who he shared his meals with, and the conversations that arose from meals across cultures. While not a lot has been written about the Yalta Conference, here I got a bit of a sense of it via the food arrangements. Food and beverages, that is. How he drank was covered, interesting, though didn’t need the author to keep saying that much has been said about his relationship with alcohol… just tell the story. A few good laughs at Churchill’s wit.

Excellent
