Publisher's Summary

A walk in the woods turns into a deadly nightmare....

The forest is my happy place. A chance to get away from my stifling apartment, the sweat of the city, a job I hate. A Sunday morning spent hiking in the woods with my dog is a dream come true...until it becomes a waking nightmare.

I don't see the hole until it's too late. Then I'm at the bottom of it, staring up at the ground 12 feet above me. A stupid accident.

Or was it?

Because soon, someone's bringing me food and water. Someone who doesn't want me to see his face. Someone who knows what I did.

Out there, someone wants revenge. And down here, at the bottom of a hole, a lifetime of lies is about to unravel....

Contains mature themes.

Had my attention from the start

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was refreshing to finally read a psychological thriller that kept me surprised and wanting to know what was going to happen next. Unlike the usual crowd of thrillers where the twists are predictable and characters fall flat, this book had me rooting for the main character. Marissa Finch does such a wonderful job in her descriptions that you can really picture the scene. The narrator read with such emotion in their voice that added engagement to the story.

It was the perfect length with and ending that tied everything together in such a satisfying way. So glad I came across this author, I can't wait to read their next one!

Twisty

So many twists and turns. Would love to see this become a movie. Very good book.

Plagued By Awkward Pacing, Shifting Perspectives

Marissa Finch fashions a twisty-turny Suspense-Thriller that requires that readers overlook logic - but the plotting is so WTF bizarre that it's surprisingly easy (a woman held prisoner in a hand-dug pit in one timeline and a woman involved in a 'Gaslight'-clone Dom-Sub relationship in another). Those premises set the table: expect some twisted reality.
The author's ability to build tension is also uncanny.. and accompanied with capable vocabulary/prose, reasonably realistic dialogue, and "decent" description skills.
Unfortunately, she draws out scenes just a little bit too aggressively ("Get On With It!" popped into my head a few times), and the shift from First-Person perspective to Third-Person Omniscient perspective and back (sometimes within the same timeline) is jarring.

As to narration: I must admit that I was distracted by reader Abby Cradden sounding *exactly* like an ex-girlfriend.. but it doesn't change the fact that she is OUTSTANDING on this project. Cradden tends to overenunciate at times, but truly commendable timbre, cadence, and pacing is matched with some of the best voice-acting that I have heard in a long time (I actually had to recheck the Product Details to see if this was a full cast performance). Realistic, emotive, and distinctive character interpretations ensure that I will look out for more from Miss Cradden in the future.

Altogether, peerless production values can't save 'Dirty Liar' from rating a mere 6.5 stars out of 10. As a 'Plus' selection, it was a satisfying listen for a couple of quiet afternoons.. but your Credit is better spent elsewhere should Audible ask for one.

Good story, great narrator

I liked it all. It’s too bad 1 of them (without spoiling) was so sure of themselves even though you clearly know they’re screwed lol). It was different, interesting, and shows the difference of consensual vs non consensual dom-sub relationships and what is abuse. I really liked that differentiation in the book. Thank you. And the narrator was fab!!

Narration was like torture

I have listened to hundreds of books and feel the narration of these characters could be a form of torture. Truly some of the most grating sounds I have ever heard in my entire life.
