Publisher's Summary

Robert Sheehan is one of Ireland’s brightest stars of the screen, both at home and abroad. Best known for his roles in Love/Hate and The Umbrella Academy, Sheehan has received widespread critical acclaim for his acting talent

In his debut collection of short stories, Robert Sheehan disappears into characters, challenging the complacencies of everyday experience, often from entirely unexpected angles.

Informed by the author’s peripatetic life, Disappearing Act reflects on the absurdity of human behaviour. Sheehan delves deep into his characters’ streams of self-talk and self-imposed delusions, exploring the dark impulses that lurk below the shiny surfaces of many outwardly normal lives.

Dark, provocative and often humorous, the collection will stay with the listener long after the audiobook is finished.

Wonderfully strange

I’m immensely glad I listened to this rather than reading it; Robert Sheehan does such a phenomenal job of giving voice to his own characters. Each is distinct and alive and mesmerizing.

This smorgasbord of stories is wonderfully strange. Equal parts disturbing, unsettling, hilarious, beautiful and bizarre, my jaw wound up on the floor a good many times.

Sheehan is a madman and a compelling storyteller. I hope to read or listen to more of his explorations in the future.

An auditory experience

I tried to find this book at my local library and in person at my local bookstores ( I really just wanted to experience a Buying this book in person) and I couldn’t find it instead of giving in to buying the book on Amazon. I decided that I will give the audiobook a try. I was thoroughly impressed by the authors ability of story’s telling. The way the author is able to tap in to each character not just thru descriptive language, but also the way he’s able to transform his voice is unbelievably talented. There are moments I had to pause the audio just to take it in. I’m glad I was able to listen to the audiobook first because it gave me such an auditory experience that I definitely couldn’t have given myself as the characters came to life truly. Now just to buy the book on Amazon.
