Story
Most organizations and individuals work in the context of annual goals and plans; a 12-month execution cycle. Instead, The 12 Week Year avoids the pitfalls and low productivity of annualized thinking. This book redefines your "year" to be 12 weeks long. In 12 weeks, there just isn't enough time to get complacent, and urgency increases and intensifies. The 12 Week Year creates focus and clarity on what matters most and a sense of urgency to do it now. In the end more of the important stuff gets done and the impact on results is profound.

Power is one of the most misunderstood - and therefore vilified - concepts in our society. Many assume power is predetermined by personality or wealth, or that it’s gained by strong-arming others. You might even write it off as “dirty” and want nothing to do with it. But by staying away from power, you give it up to someone else who may not have your best interest in mind. We must understand and use our power to have impact, and pioneering researchers Julie Battilana and Tiziana Casciaro provide the playbook for doing so in Power, for All.

The memoir of a neuroscientist whose research led him to a bizarre personal discovery, James Fallon had spent an entire career studying how our brains affect our behavior when his research suddenly turned personal. While studying brain scans of several family members, he discovered that one perfectly matched a pattern he’d found in the brains of serial killers. This meant one of two things: Either his family’s scans had been mixed up with those of felons or someone in his family was a psychopath.

Welcome to the age of behavioral addiction - an age in which half of the American population is addicted to at least one behavior. We obsess over our emails, Instagram likes, and Facebook feeds; we binge on TV episodes and YouTube videos; we work longer hours each year; and we spend an average of three hours each day using our smartphones. Half of us would rather suffer a broken bone than a broken phone, and Millennial kids spend so much time in front of screens that they struggle to interact with real, live humans.

Publisher's Summary
This is a book for working women and mothers who are ready to release the culturally inherited belief that their worth is equal to their productivity, and instead create a personal and professional life that's based on presence, meaning, and joy. As opposed to focusing on "fitting it all in", time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do, this book embraces the notion that through doing less women can have - and be - more.
The addiction to busyness and the obsession with always trying to do more leads women, especially working mothers, to feel like they're always failing their families, their careers, their spouses, and themselves. This book will give women the permission and tools to change the way they approach their lives and allow them to embrace living in tune with the cyclical nature of the feminine, cutting out the extraneous busyness from their lives so they have more satisfaction and joy, and letting themselves be more often instead of doing all the time. Do Less offers the listener a series of 14 experiments to try to see what would happen if she did less in one specific way. So, rather than approaching doing less as an entire life overhaul (which is overwhelming in and of itself), this book gives the listener bite-sized steps to try incorporating over two weeks!
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Do less by not reading this book!
Wish I could get this time back. The content is highly repetitive and layers expert-adjacent feelings and anecdotes over the work of a quack pseudoscientist (author’s mom) who is currently a vocal COVID anti-vaxxer. The tips I made it through are common sense to say the least. Spoiler - experiment #1 is be aware of your menstrual cycle - those who have one are necessarily aware?! I hate to be so negative but the book is not as it is marketed. It is content specifically for moms who have chosen alternative career paths, believe in the power crystals and have time for elaborate rituals/moodboards - and doesn’t recognize that’s not everyone! It makes sweeping (ignorant) assumptions about the reader based on the author’s narrow worldview - unless you’re living in her bubble, don’t bother!

Drivel
This book is absolutely useless fluff for the privileged class. Perhaps interesting for mommy bloggers who can decide to do less and rely on their partner’s income but that doesn’t need a book. The message is akin to the secret as in, use your imagination to will things into existence - this message seems to be you don’t need to work, just tune into your menstrual cycle to guide your life.
I had to shut it off after about 45 minutes.

A wake up call for all us busy ladies
I loved this book. I was feeling very overwhelmed and unbalanced. I listened to this book each day while driving into work (45 min commute). This book spoke to me and this book pushed me in gear to make a change. I changed my hours to part time. Changed my role within the organization (from Operations Manager to Sales Presenter). Negotiated remote work when otherwise not required at an event or clients. So now I can focus on my personal business, utilizing the hours "off" as my time to focus on the business, while being there for my family, and being able to predict how I might feel as each week goes on and I plan as best I can around that :). I recommend this to anyone who is busy and needs help!

Wanted to like it more
After reading Kate’s first book I was excited for this one. As someone struggling with chronic never enough syndrome I was hoping it would help me work through some of those emotions. Instead I found the material hard to relate to. So much would be easier to connect to if there weren’t multiple mentions of 7 figure incomes and the unreality that comes from not struggling to make ends meet. It would be easier to do less if there weren’t financial stressors or other factors like lacking a support system. This book felt like it was not written for your average person. Overall it was hard to connect to and left me feeling lesser than for not having the resources and connections necessary to “do less”.

You Get To Choose
Great daily deal of $1.95 to help you choose the YOU you want to be. If you are looking to understand WHY you are not where you want to be, never in the moment, or trying to understand why you are doing more, but getting less satisfaction, then take advantage of this deal. It is a fairly short listen, eg Lightly by Francine Jay a great fave to actually change your life and Self Discipline by Jennifer Allison. These two books were daily deals that actually changed my life. Check them out. I found they helped me to physically do things so I could get to the point of understanding the meaning of this book. How great is that??
This book helps a person understand themselves if they REALLY want to get to a place of tranquility. The key here is tranquility, which many of us do not even understand what and where that place really is in our lives. I found this book is really about letting go of the I wants, dealing with the reality of your life, and most importantly understanding self esteem.
Regarding some of the examples in this book, remember, it is about dealing with what YOU have and not what others have.
Were my comments of help?

Inspiring ideas for modern conscious-leaning womxn
This book will appeal to all womxn (but directed at young mothers, as the author is one) that are aware of conscious living and conscious parenting. If you are not aware of this type of living or have some sort of spiritual beliefs, you will probably think it's a waste of time.
Kate Northrup introduces her own ideas about how our menstrual cycle links up with the moon, and how we can use this knowledge to create a more rich mother, work, and personal life. Beyond the lunar cycle, she gives good advice about generally living consciously in an easy to digest, friendly way.
I did feel a little disengaged at some points because although because I liked the information and the way she presented it, I also felt that she was very "white-priveleged, wealthy and first-world", which she is and that's perfectly fine. I simply felt disengaged for less than 10% of the book.
All in all, good info and most certainly left me feeling inspired to do something ... well, DO LESS to achieve more.

This definitely is not just meant for mothers...
This definitely is not just meant for mothers but for women in general. The book reminds you that you should show a bit of self-compassion while staying productive and - what's most importing - setting your priorities straight.

Totally new-to-me info & actionable
I love self-development books and feel like I've read every book on productivity. As a business owner and mom of three young kids, I'm always overwhelmed and looking for ways to make the best use of my time. I heard Kate on a podcast (Amy Porterfield's "Online Marketing Made Easy") and everything she said just resonated with me. I got the book on audible and probably blew through it in a few days. I loved Kate's narration (I've learned that I really don't like books that are not narrated by the author - there's just something more authentic when an author reads their own material.) I love the idea of planning out my month based on the energy I have, based on my cycles. If you're not cycling, due to pregnancy, menopause, etc, you can instead plan based on lunar cycles. When I put this into practice, I felt the guilt of "not doing enough" during my inward phase disappear. But then, during my outward phase, I felt more energy and ideas flowing and it all made sense. I'm in my 40's and wish I had learned this a long time ago! I now try to plan out, as much as is possible (Kate recommends a goal of 20% of activities) to plan out my schedule based on a monthly cyclical calendar instead of always trying to cram in as much all the time as I possibly can. That's not to say it's an excuse to be lazy - no no. But using our own energy in the most effective ways. I need more rest during certain times of the month, more self-care, and at other times of the month, I need to focus on hitting it hard and get things done. I've found it not only to be freeing, but also much more efficient with my time. Kate also has amazing bonuses and a FB group community where she's active. Overall, listening to this book has been a fabulous experience!

Couldn’t Finish
I picked up this book because, as a working mother, I’m generally interested in techniques that other working women found effective. But when the author made a Rainman joke, I couldn’t listen to another word. It is quite obvious that I could not possibly learn anything from this woman except that mocking those with special needs is appropriate. I hate that I supported her by buying this book.

No real practical solutions
If I'm so overwhelmed with day to day that I can't shower I really can't align my tasks with the moon cycles! I listened to this on my commute in hopes of practical solutions to get my life under control and was left with another to do list and no real answers on how to simplify. The chapters attempt to be generic to apply to everyone, but are really only applicable to work from home individuals with a prosperous incomes. Side note of irritation how many times were we reminded of her 7 figure business? I'm glad whatever she is doing is working for the author and others, but I don't know how they got there. Most chapters I was left confused as to what to focus on. Another approach is definitely for me.

Scheduling around your monthly cycle?!?
OK, I admit I only made it about 15 mins into this audiobook before I decided I could not waste several hours of my life. The book focused on your biology to learn how to manage your time. I'm sorry my boss does not care that I'm on my period and that my body needs a break. I think the message of not producing constantly and restoring ones self is a great point but that's about it.

A must read for all women
I took more notes for this book than I’ve taken from a book in years!!! So many new ideas, eye opening moments, and brilliant takeaways! Thank you Kate for having the courage to share this message!
