Publisher's Summary

Most humans have no idea that a dark and deadly underworld, filled with magic and monsters, exists. They wander through life blissfully ignorant of the supernatural world around them. Nora Jacobs is different. Nora knows exactly what kinds of hellish creatures haunt the streets of Detroit.

Thanks to a unique set of psychic abilities, Nora has managed to steer clear of the underworld most of her life. But all that changes the night the most powerful vampire in the city discovers her gifts and decides to use her as a tool to find one of his missing clan members.

As if that's not bad enough, Nora believes she's cursed. All her life, people, especially men, have been drawn to her - some to the point of obsession and violence. Underworlders, it seems, are not immune to this curse, and now she's caught the attention of some of the most dangerous monsters in the city. Neck deep in an investigation only she can solve, Nora quickly makes as many new allies as she does enemies. Her biggest problem is staying alive long enough to decide which is which.

Contains mature themes.

LOVED THE STORY

I’ve read the ebook before sthanks to a 30-Day Kindle Unlimited free trial and since the next book in the series only comes early 2019 and I wanted to more of it I bought the audiobook.

I guess what I would love is more of a difference between the voices? Not enough emotion put into it to distinguish the parts where the main character is narrating from when she’s not? All I know is my eard got tired halfway thru which made it difficult to pay attention to the story. It is a tough job though because while the main character is female almost all the others are male.

One narrating moment I really liked was when she jumped to Oliver’s defense. The emotion was fantastic.

Still, I love the serie so much I bought book 2’s audiobook.

Super cute story

Shockingly good story. Different from your normal supernatural story. I really enjoyed this considering I didn’t want to listen to this. Will be purchasing the other books.

Love

Love the charters and the story line. I am usually quite picky but I loved the writing and the non stop quality of this book. Quite entertaining.

GOOD. INTERESTING STORYLINE.

Good plot. The protagonist have problems but luckily she met up with some allies/friends to support her. Fast paced action from the start. The storyline is good and leave room for further development. Hollie Jackson's performance/narration is perfect. She brings out the different characters well and her male voices are acceptable. The first book in this series turned out very well. Worth a credit. I will continue with book 2.

Pleasantly Surprised

I go through a lot of fantasy books a month, so I tend to try many different authors. I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It is shorter than I prefer by was entertaining the entire time. The characters and plot were built quickly so the beginning didn’t drag. The narrating is well done, no annoying quarks to her voice. I am looking forward to more from this series and author.

Good story but the men turned to boys

I liked the book until the end, when the exhausted heroine had to boost the men’s attitudes. It began to feel like a reverse harem book and made the “men” seem like boys that needed a mother figure.

Like the narrator did not like the story

struggled to finish. Story line and characters seem very forced. Ended up just getting annoyed with the main character

didn’t bother to finish it

I agree that the cast of characters and personalities are excellent and the story premise well designed but the poor logic used to explain the heroines’ actions devalued the book just when it should have become most important. Also the monologues for everyone internally dialogued by the mind reading heroine are shallow and underdeveloped. I honestly believe this author can get there, and I will keep an eye on her but this book didn’t stand up to the reviews it’s been getting. The narrator’s tone indicates she was just as bored as I was and the sing song pattern annoyed the eardrums. OTOH I did move on to the second book in the series and found it improved in most of the areas that this one was lacking in.

lead Character Whines to Much.

lead Character whined throughout the book about
how she doesn't take charity and how she doesn't date. It was nauseating to the point that I put the book down 3 times and walked away.

Decent Beginning

This was a pleasant audiobook. The narrator isn't the best, maybe, with voices, but she wasn't irritating for me. I found her performance engaging enough to lose myself in the story.

There were a few parts of this I felt could use some work, but over all, it is a decent first book in a series. That first chapter? I was nodding thinking "Giiiirl, I feel you." What I liked about this was that no matter what was going on Nora was a fighter. She's not strong, physically, but she didn't let that stop her or make her cower before someone who was trying to do her harm. She even had the smarts to play along a few times to find her opening and actually took it.

The paranormal side of this is maybe like any other, but what I liked most? The top dogs in the paranormal world aren't the usual creatures.

It was a decent story that I don't regret listening to. I'll be checking out the second book.

Interesting Story

Absolutely enjoyed this book. The main character has a pretty sad backstory... but for the most part, the actual plot was fairly lighthearted and a fun listen. I can’t wait for the second audiobook and the third book!

Loved it

This is my first book narrated by Hollie Jackson and I really enjoyed her performance. I enjoyed the large cast of paranormals in the book. Looking forward to the next book
