Publisher's Summary

Welcome to Shadow Valley where the Dirty Angels MC rules. Get ready to get Down & Dirty because this is Axel's story...

When you’re a cop, life can be complicated when the woman you love is MC born and raised....

Though the club blood runs thick in Axel’s veins, he’s despised by them for being a cop. They also hate him because his family turned their back years ago not only on the club but his brother, the president of the Dirty Angels MC. However, he's loved Bella forever, watched her marry the wrong man, one who broke her in almost every imaginable way, and yet she's still the strongest person he knows. Despite their rivaling families, he won't let anything stand in the way of making her his this time.

Bella hasn’t known anything other than alpha bikers her whole life. Her marriage to one turned into a tragedy, one that changed the rest of her life. She was never the same after that one fateful night that Axel came to save her. Though he remains on the outskirts of her life, he’s always there: watching, waiting, worrying about her. Especially when a rival MC continues to wreak havoc on all of their lives.

Like Romeo and Juliet, his family may never accept her, and hers him, but they’re both determined to tear down the wall that divides them.

Note: This audiobook can be listened to as a standalone. It includes lots of steamy scenes, biker slang, cursing, some violence and, of course, an HEA. If you like alpha males who like to take charge, this book is for you.

Down & Dirty: Axel (Dirty Angels MC, Book 5)

I had the opportunity to listen to this audiobook, and I jumped at the chance. I read the book when it was first released and fell in love with Bella and Axel. I couldn't wait to hear had the narrators portrayed the story. What follows is my original review of the story along with an added review for the narration. Let me start out by saying that I absolutely love this series!! The women are all tough as nails and love fiercely. The men are no nonsense alphas who protect their women to the ends of the earth. I was so happy to finally get Axel's story. He's made appearances in the other books but we didn't really know much about him except that he was a cop, Zak's brother, hated by the DAMC, and into Bella. As for the type of man he was or his personality, that has been a mystery..... until now. Just like the other men in this series, I fell in love with Axel. He was a great guy and fiercely loyal to Bella, no matter who tried to keep them apart. He would go down fighting for her. The way he made Bella believe she was worth fighting for had me tearing up at times. Bella had a horrendous past and vowed to never let herself be vulnerable again. Despite loving Axel, she fought her feelings, knowing there could be heartache in their future. Thankfully they got their HEA, although it wasn't without struggles. I definitely recommend reading Bella and Axel's story to see how they got there. Once again, Ava Lucas and Teddy Hamilton gave a terrific performance. I was especially drawn to Ms. Lucas' narration of Bella's inner dialogue and thoughts. Bella has such an emotional story and the way she feels about herself is heartbreaking. The narration conveys these emotions beautifully. *I was provided a copy of this audiobook and voluntarily chose to leave a review. This is my honest review.*

Narrators brought the characters to life

All I can say is WOW - you better have Kleenex available when you listen to this book!! I have always been a fan of this series and my favorites were always the couple it all started with but they have now been dethroned as Axel and Bella have won my heart. This audio book was filled with so much drama, anguish, angst and love that I had to stop listening and wipe my tears before I could continue. The narrators were spot on and brought the characters to life. Two extremely broken souls finally finding there way to each other. But will their families accept them or are they going to have to walk away from their entire lives to be together? With an extremely emotional journey as the storyline and characters who have become bigger and better than the rest in the series this book cannot be missed. Jeanne St. James has outdone herself!!

Modern day Romeo and Juliet!

This book takes you on an emotional journey of unbridled forbidden love! Bella, born and bred with DAMC blood and loyalty in her veins, is a strong survivor of a woman. You cannot help but love and respect her! Try as she might she just couldn’t fight the attraction she had to Axel, who is not only DAMC president Zak’s brother but also a cop. The two know they should not be together due to the long standing bad blood between Axel’s father and the DAMC but nothing seems to be able to extinguish the flame between these too! This book gave me hot, heartache, and happiness with the HEA Bella deserves! Teddy Hamilton’s voice was pure magic in this narration. I never wanted him to stop speaking! Ava Lucas like always brought the book to life and made this a quick listen. Another wonderful addition to the DAMC world!

Loved Bella and Axel!

I can’t get enough of the short answers and grunts. The men from DAMC are awesome. Now Axel is a cop, he doesn’t grunt but part of his family is from the Club. He has always been attracted to Bella, but being from opposite sides he never acted on it until now. “She belongs to no one!” But I love how they fought the chemistry and gave in at the end. It was super hot! Listening to their struggle unfold into a happy ending was great. Loved this series... loved the book! Sexy narration ;-)

My favourite to date

I really love Ms. St James’s style of writing, she packs such a punch into her characters. Raw and gritty there is something about this series that truly captivates me. From start to finish Jeanne St John and the narrators Teddy Hamilton & Ava Lucas drew me in and kept my attention. Axel and Bella are two halves of a whole and are meant to be together. They have history together, after all he has kept her secrets from her DAMC family even though he knows it would be better for her if she were to tell them. Axel’s a cop and Bella is property of the DAMC, totally on opposite sides in the fence and yet they love one another deeply and passionately. Circumstances have conspired to keep them apart, but what will happen when the walls finally come down.? Will his family accept Bella or more importantly, will her biker family accept that Bella’s man is a cop, even if he is the estranged brother of the DAMC President? I loved how brave and determined Bella was, her feisty attitude and the fact that she wasn’t afraid to stand up for her man, once he finally admitted his love for her. I absolutely adore Bella but it is Axel who captured my heart, he was totally swoon worthy. Axel may well be my favourite book in the series to date.

Love this book!!

I love this book!! The love between Bella and Axel is great! Axel has loved Bella for the longest time so them coming together is so sweet! Axel’s interactions with Diesel are too funny. Jeanne St James writes another masterpiece here! The audio of Teddy Hamilton and Ava Lucas are top notch!

Oh Axel...Swoon

Axel almost, almost, kicked my man Diesel from his number 1 perch. This book for me really gave me perspective into a non Dirty Angels MC character and what it’s like to be on the outside. That doesn’t mean Axel is any less Alpha or possessive because of he sure as heck isn’t. It was just nice to see the other side. Bella’s story broke my heart as it would anyone but her strength in the face of it all really draws you to her character. I can completely see why she didn’t want to start anything with Axel because they are from two different sides of things. But isn’t that what makes the best love stories. I swooned, I teared up, I laughed and smiled. This book really shows you all the emotions of having a tragic past but a hopeful future if you have the gut to put yourself out there to have it. What do I say about the narration that I haven’t already said about these two fantastic narrators? Ava and her man voice I swear she gives me the shivers in a great way and Teddy, oh sweet Teddy when you say the naughty words I am a pool of mush I tell ya.

not my favorite

rated it a 4 solely because of how much I'm loving the bigger story. Ms Lucas is a very good narrator, I just prefer listening to men. she read the majority of this book, maybe 2/3rds? I completely love this series but this particular story was kind of dull. the ending was abrupt. it felt like it was missing the last couple of chapters, too much left up in the air. spoilers!!! somewhere around chapter 14 she goes into an abandoned house used by the rival MC alone, without telling anyone where she is and unarmed. the overwhelming stupidity of that act did a lot to wreck the book for me. that MC has tortured and raped multiple women from the DAMC, just really?!?! about the only things that saved the book were the developing friendship with the dark knights and the scene at the end when Axel went to talk to the executive committee.

Worst book in this series.

I usually do not leave reviews even if i don't like the book, only stars. However, Ive struggled with this series from Book one,, but having read/listened to about everything of interest on Audible, I kept going. So cheesy! The dialog was laughable it was so bad in parts. Ended abruptly & left me wondering if I had me wondering missed an entire chapter. I'm not even sure what book this is in the series, but I won't read any more of them.
