A Throughly Entertaining Series

I was pleasantly surprised by what, at first, seemed to be yet another dragon rider, boy meets girl at the academy (school), good vs evil and good always wins, kind of story.
What I found instead was a story where both good and evil were, in turn, triumphant. This was a story of experiencing life through various good times and bad, while making sometimes devastating mistakes but also learning from them.
I like the fact that the value of the family you are born into is reinforced, even with the blemishes of family members who do hurtful things. This story also brings strangers, from a variety of societal and racial backgrounds, together to form friendships. It then goes on to show how it is possible for people to choose close friends who eventually form a solid, supportive, group who can become a closely bonded family of their own.
It has magic, it has battles, adversity and triumphs. It throws in relationships of all kinds but doesn’t delve very deeply into romantic couples.
This last book in the series is exciting and produces a satisfyingly grand, all encompassing, climax to the series.
Overall, it’s an entertaining and satisfying story, which enables you to escape to another set of worlds and another reality.
