Story
Twenty-one-year-old Jenilee Lane's dreams are as narrow as the sky is wide. She doesn't imagine any good could come out of the tornado that has ripped across the Missouri farmland where she's made her home. But some inner spark compels her to take action. To rescue her elderly neighbor, Eudora Gibson, from the cellar in which she's been trapped. To make her way to the nearby town of Poetry, where the townspeople have begun to gather in the only building left standing. To collect from the devastated landscape fragments of life that lie strewn about in the tornado's wake.

Publisher's Summary
Once a gifted ballet dancer, Julia Costell buckled under the demands of a professional dance career and has landed with a thud in an unglamorous job as a guidance counselor at a performing arts high school. Living back home with her parents and feeling lost, she is afraid she’ll never soar again...until the day young Dell Jordan is sent to her office, carrying an essay.
In Dell’s writing, Julia sees luminous sparks of hope. But as she fights to forge a brighter future for one disadvantaged student, she is drawn into startling undercurrents of conflict and denial within the academy. Only when she is tested in ways she never could have imagined does she begin to discover where real meaning and fulfillment lie - and realize that even though her life has seemed off course, she’s been on the right path all along.
What the critics say
“Heartfelt and moving, enriched by characters drawn with compassion and warmth.” (New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Chiaverini)
“Another winner.” (Booklist)

Sometimes Too Redundant
After reading “Before We Were Yours” and “The Story Keeper” this novel was a little disappointing. It’s evident that Wingate really shines when writing historical fiction and even though this book had a couple of relevant topics, it moved a little slow for this listener. The narrator, Mia Brown, kept me engaged or otherwise I might have not finished.

My Favorite, so far, in this Amazing Series!
I have so enjoyed the wise sayings & quotes that stand out in Lisa’s books. This series, is captivating. BUT! This book in particular, shares how important to your soul, and very being, it is, to protect and stand up, for what is right. Some reviewers have remarked that this book takes current, serious issues, and wrapped them up as easily solved. It’s a book. There’s a limited time to tell a story. But it gets the point across in a loving, heart felt way. It encourages us not only to get out of our self-centered selves, but, when we see where we can help personally, to reach out and do that, even at what may seem to be, a personal cost. I did tear up in certain parts. I loved this series!!

A wonderful story
As an adoptive child myself I can relate to the characters feelings regarding finding yourself and doubts that most adopted children have. I thoroughly enjoined this book
