Publisher's Summary

We read a news story about a teenager who drinks too much alcohol too quickly and dies; who jumps from a high rock into a pool of deep water and drowns; who commits suicide yet no one realized she was suffering from depression.

The tragedy is that those kids understood the quadratic equations of algebra, yet they didn't have the life experience to recognize a dangerous situation or the symptoms of loneliness or the fragility of a broken heart so that they could feel safe and at peace.

Parental guidance these days may be quite limited due to family situations and busy schedules. Schools do not teach enough about lessons in life. Our children are more apt to believe something crazy a friend mentions than what is actually the truth.

Dropping In on the Waves of Life, told in first-person present tense, provides 3D encounters in which the listener experiences life through the author’s own eyes as a surfer and can consider better approaches or ways to avoid difficult situations. These are true tales of a surfer’s life experiences and lessons, many related to surfing, told in an enthusiastic, warm, and often humorous manner. They are similar to what everyone goes through, no matter that person’s sex or cultural background–sometimes a happy ending, sometimes not.

After each tale is a set of delving questions providing the opportunity for the listener to relate to the situation and discover a lesson in life without having to endure embarrassment or worse. Older listeners may gain new reflections upon what they’ve known.

To quote from the introduction: “I can help you avoid some of the pitfalls and little tricky situations awaiting you out in this World of ours. Then, go out and drop in on your own waves as you ride...in the greatest surf adventure (surfari) of them all–your life.”
