Publisher's Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Dust of Dreams: The Malazan Book of the Fallen 9 by Steven Erikson, read by Michael Page.
On the Letherii continent the exiled Malazan army commanded by Adjunct Tavore begins its march into the eastern Wastelands, to fight for an unknown cause against an enemy it has never seen.
The fate awaiting the Bonehunters is one no soldier can prepare for, and one no mortal soul can withstand - the foe is uncertainty and the only weapon worth wielding is stubborn courage. In war everyone loses, and this brutal truth can be found in the eyes of every soldier in every world.
Destinies are never simple.Truths are neither clear nor sharp. The Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen are drawing to a close in a distant place, beneath indifferent skies, as the last great army of the Malazan Empire seeks a final battle in the name of redemption. Final questions remain to be answered: can one's deeds be heroic when no one is there to see it? Can that which is unwitnessed forever change the world? The answers await the Bonehunters, beyond the Wastelands...

Payoff is Coming, but this one is pretty dry
This is my second time through the series, and as with all the others, this book is much better on a second read for me. I’m not nearly as impatient with the new characters introduced this time, and I appreciate the detail spent wrapping up old plot threads instead of rushing them for the series completion. However, this book is still overall not that exciting.
There are some interesting things in the middle of the book, but it does drag and some of them don’t seem to be worth the time invested. A lot of the time I still felt that I wanted to rush through the Bolkando or the Barghast stuff and get back to the Malazans already.
Of course, there are still a lot of epic moments, especially a scene in the middle with some gods and the book’s ending (I won’t say anything more). But this book is mostly just set up for the finale in The Crippled God, and I’m rating it as such.
For narration, this is Michael Page’s best performance yet, although I’m sure he’ll do even better in the last book!

I hate the author for making me cry multiple times
Steve made me go from crying to cheering every chapter. Page's narration was amazing, starting book 10 immediately

Worst book in the series
This one was very convoluted and lackluster compared to previous books. Much of what was covered had little payoff. Possibly setup for the final book in the main series?
