Publisher's Summary

Doctor of natural medicine and wellness authority Dr. Josh Axe delivers a groundbreaking, indispensable guide for understanding, diagnosing, and treating one of the most discussed yet little-understood health conditions: leaky gut syndrome.

Do you have a leaky gut? For 80 percent of the population, the answer is yes - and most people don't even realize it. Leaky gut syndrome is the root cause of a litany of ailments: chronic inflammation, allergies, autoimmune diseases, hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, diabetes, and even arthritis.

To keep us in good health, our gut relies on maintaining a symbiotic relationship with trillions of microorganisms that live in our digestive tract. When our digestive system is out of whack, serious health problems can manifest, and our intestinal walls can develop microscopic holes, allowing undigested food particles, bacteria, and toxins to seep into the bloodstream. This condition is known as leaky gut syndrome.

In Eat Dirt, Dr. Josh Axe explains that what we regard as modern "improvements" to our food supply - including refrigeration, sanitation, and modified grains - have damaged our intestinal health. In fact, the same organisms in soil that allow plants and animals to flourish are the ones we need for gut health. In Eat Dirt, Dr. Axe explains that it's essential to get a little "dirty" in our daily lives in order to support our gut bacteria and prevent leaky gut syndrome. Dr. Axe offers simple ways to get these needed microbes, from incorporating local honey and bee pollen into your diet to forgoing hand sanitizers and even ingesting a little probiotic-rich soil.

Because leaky gut manifests differently in every individual, Dr. Axe also identifies the five main "gut types" and offers customizable plans - including diet, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations - to dramatically improve gut health in just 30 days. With a simple diet plan, recipes, and practical advice, Eat Dirt will help listeners restore gut health and eliminate leaky gut for good.

Enlightening Read!

I really enjoyed this book. If you're looking for an informative, holistic, no-nonsense book about health then give this a listen! I've struggled with many skin and digestive issues for years and after incorporating a lot of what is described in Eat Dirt, I am healing in a way that I was losing hope was possible. This book gives great advice and steps on how you can take charge of your own health and life through more traditional methods such as eating locally grown food (like from your own vegetable garden), walking in nature, consuming only whole foods with minimal processing, etc. I've definitely heard a lot of this information before, but there are some surprises and the way it's all laid out is great! I think this book provides a solid foundation for how you can achieve optimal health in a world where that can sometimes seem impossible.

Informative and Interesting

I enjoyed the way this book was layed out... scientific, yet stated in a way which was easy to digest. 😉 The practical knowledge with extra tidbits of information were helpful as I continue along my health journey. I look forward to applying more of these Eat Dirt Principles towards my life and experiencing the difference they can make.

useful info, but narrator is an idiot

The info is fairly well put together and accurate, albeit somewhat generic. But seriously the narrator is an idiot, mispronouncing well over a dozen basic health terms over and over again.

He has clearly never read a speck of health information in his life and it will drive you a bit crazy.

Eat Dirt as an audiobook

Found the use of the words Eat Dirt used excessively. The content was really good. The audio was a little on the dramatic side....but content useful.

Excellent Read

The immense amount of knowledge that you can gain from this book is incredible. If it wasn't for the captivating content however, the voice would make me sleepy.

Controverial truths

Great book listen that got me to also get the hard copy to access the long list of references. Impossible, and illegal to take notes while I drive. I have adapted some of the learning to my own food intake. #Audible1
