Publisher's Summary

They may not be made for each other, but animal instincts are impossible to ignore.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying.

Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, he is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline. Madisyn isn’t interested in joining an unfamiliar pack, so convincing her that they’re meant for each other is going to take more than branding her beautiful neck. But when threats from both their pasts take shape, their unexpected destiny may be the only thing that can save them.

recovery and passion

the concern you would have is that the male lead will end up using his mate to recover from the tragedy this is not a concern you should have when diving into this hot and steamy and fun story. the development of the characters and the concerns they have our beautifully done one thing I love that touched waiting to beginning is the fear of being wanted only for a bond not for who you are and how that could faster and destroy a mating. this is a good story and I like that the background is teased in the previous books but if you haven't read them you won't be lost its explained quite thoroughly and quickly what's happening very happy with the story would actually highly recommend.

Me-ow!

I loved everything about this book! As always, Suzanne kept me on my toes and feeling all the feels. The narrator was fantastic! The love Madison and Bracken had was not fast and hard, but slow. it was the kind seeped into every part of them. And where there is a happy couple, there always seems to be a jealous b**ch in the wings waiting and plotting to tear them apart. In the end, everyone gets their just desserts.

Back to Goodness!

After the disappointment I had in the last book, in this series, I was worried that SW had lost interest in writing this series. Thankfully, this book was as good as the past books. It was Hot, as a shifter romance should be and we got to spend some time with a lot of our favorite characters. This novel followed the typical Mercury/Phoenix pack pattern... the H/h discover they are mates, they both are both reluctant, at fist, there is outside pack drama that threatens one mate, the couple starts the mating bond but it isn’t completed because one of them is holding back, their is a pack battle, one mate is seriously injured, the reluctant mate realizes the bond isn’t complete because of insecurity, problem identified and repairs, bond fully snaps in place, finally they get their HEA. Even recognizing the pattern, I loved every minute and can’t wait for the next book released. This is my all time favorite shifter series and I’ll be devastated when it finally ends. -V from Kansas

You gotta love these shifters

Miss Wright you did it again!!!. Since Phoenix pack book 5 (Savage Urges) I wondering breathlessly what kind of feline shifter Madisyn is and knowing that she's just a rare breed made her even more interesting. But NOW that I know, I found myself pausing to research her feline omg in love. I absolutely 100% agree With the other characters her feline is dangerously gorgeous. I Love the Mercury pack as much as I love the Phoenix pack . Bracken found love with Madisyn after all that he lost. This book's story line is basic Suzanne Wright story line but it does however, answer a few questions especially my suspicions about Keane and Little Cassie ( Bet that story will be JUICY when she gets older). All-and-All I really enjoy this book 5 stars. I know last book caught a few people off guard because of all the per normal ghosts/aberrations. Yet when you think about it Dawn had a Witch put a spell over the shelter to protect it. So why not ghost too mades sense in my opinion. lol I'm intrested in seeing what Eli story is about and who's his mate. Maybe his mate might be a bird shifter e.g ( Owl, Eagle,or Falcon) OR a Witch. Or Faith might have Eli find his mate, only to end up sharing her with someone else someone like Dominic!!!!! CAN'T FREAKING WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE

Another favorite of the series

While the series is very formulaic, I think Wright had significant unique elements to this book that helped set it apart from previous books. Madisyn’s background as a lone shifter, her unique breed, and the fact that she already has a friendship & interaction with the Mercury & Phoenix Packs. Bracken, on the other hand, is recovering from devastating events that have completely changed his personality and outlook. Their path to mating follows a different trajectory than most. I also really liked the secondary action/mystery/suspense elements in this one. Additionally, we’re introduced to the Olympus Pride and several of its members. They’ll feature more prominently in Dominic’s book, Untamed Delights. Note: Olympus Pride will get its own series, starting with When He’s Dark, but chronologically you’ll want to read/listen to the rest of the Phoenix & Mercury Pack books first. Jill Redfield is still AMAZING. This is a HUGE cast of characters, male and female, young and old – and even though the packs are expanding and merging, she still manages to give them all unique voices and characteristics. You know exactly who is talking at any given time.

Another Suzanne Wright - Jill Redfield winner!

Loved the Bracken-Madison story. The pack family-friend interactions are so wonderfully written with realism and often hilarity. Suzanne Wright gets it. Love the strength of the male and female characters. Jill Redfield's interpretation and performance of all of the characters and their attitudes are just awesome - that is talent!!!
